Dabbat al-ard (Arabic: دابة الأرض‎) is an Arabic phrase meaning beast of the earth. In Islam it is one of the signs preceding the Day of Judgment.

Religious context

The phrase appears in the Qur'an, in Sura An-Naml:

“And when the word is fulfilled concerning them, We shall bring forth a dabbe (beast) of the earth to speak unto them because mankind had not faith in Our revelations.”[Qur'an 27:82]

The term also appears in the hadith, which expand upon the activities of the beast.
