Dalton Caldwell (born 1980) is a technologist and digital music entrepreneur. He is best known as the founder and Chief Executive Officer of imeem, a position he has held since 2003.

Born in El Paso, Texas, Caldwell graduated from Stanford University in 2003 with a B.S. in Symbolic Systems and a B.A. in Psychology.[1]

After graduation, Caldwell worked briefly for VA Linux (where he had previously worked as a summer intern) before founding imeem in late 2003 with Stanford classmate (and ex-Napster engineer) Jan Jannink.[2]

imeem started as an instant messaging service that let people do more than chat, communicating through blogging, instant messaging and sharing files.[3] The service was inspired by Caldwell's senior honors thesis on “Extending instant messaging for collaboration in the workplace."[4]

Caldwell wrote the first lines of code for imeem's instant-messaging application[5] during Thanksgiving weekend in 2003. He and Jannink founded the company soon thereafter, with Caldwell serving as CEO.

imeem later reinvented itself as a social networking site with a strong focus on helping people discover, play and share music and music videos.[6] Today, imeem is one of the world's largest streaming music services.[7]
