Damaka, which loosely means “The Joy of Communication” in Hindi, is a SIP-based, peer-to-peer software that offers IPTV, voice, video (H.263/H.264), IM, file transfer, desktop sharing, voice commands, Internet radio, RSS reader, & other features in a real-time environment.
Because of its standards-based platform, Damaka can connect to and integrate with other SIP-based platforms – without intermediary server or supernodes.

Damaka was founded in 2004 and is based in Richardson, TX.

History

The concept for Damaka's technology was developed by Ramesh Ravikumar, who was a student at MIT in early 2003.
His brother Siva Ravikumar and friend Satish Gundabathula worked on the architecture to push the softswitch and media gateway to a client-level "personal softswitch". This switching technology an extension of the current VoIP architecture. In a traditional VoIP network, the softswitch is located on the carrier's premises, and all VoIP calls are controlled by the carrier. In a P2P network, all sessions take place between the participating computers without an intermediate server.

Damaka has filed at least 8 patents on communications technologies.
