'Damaka, which loosely means “The Joy of
Communication” in Hindi, is a SIP-based, peer-to-peer software that offers IPTV, voice,
video (H.263/H.264), IM, file transfer, desktop sharing, voice
commands, Internet radio, RSS

without intermediary server or supernodes.
Damaka was founded in 2004 and is
based in Richardson, TX.
History
The
concept for Damaka's technology was developed by Ramesh Ravikumar,
who was a student at MIT in
early 2003.His brother
Siva Ravikumar and friend Satish Gundabathula worked on the
architecture to push the softswitch and media gateway to a client-level "personal
softswitch".This
switching technology an extension of the current VoIP architecture. In a traditional VoIP network, the softswitch
is located on the carrier's premises, and all VoIP calls are controlled by the
carrier.In a P2P
network, all sessions take place between the participating
computers without an intermediate server.
Damaka has filed at
least 8 patents on
communications technologies.
