Daniel "Dan" S. Butler

Dan Butler, born Daniel S. Butler, is the Assistant Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Open Source (ADDNI/OS)[1] in the United States. As such, he is responsible for developing strategic direction, establishing policy and managing fiscal resources for Open Source Intelligence, providing oversight for the DNI Open Source Center, as well as document and media exploitation for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

Prior to joining the ODNI, Mr. Butler was Executive Director of the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), at Andrews Air Force Base. In this capacity he served as adviser to the AFOSI Commander, oversaw the AFOSI Special Investigations Career Program and was responsible for executive-level policy coordination, liaison, and representation to national and international organizations. He received a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Columbia University in 1981, a Master's in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a Master's in Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College in 1997. He is also a private pilot.[3]
