Dan Kalmick is a small business owner and
volunteer firefighter who is currently running for the seat in the
California's 46th
congressional district Biography and Summary
Daniel (Dan) Fredrick Kalmick is a managing director and
senior consultant for Flashlight Technologies, a Strategic and
Information Technology Consulting company for small and medium
businesses in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, which he started in
2004. He has been a resident of Orange County for over 25 years.
Flashlight Technologies allows Dan to be out in the field and
on the ground to see how small businesses in the district are
performing. He consults with manufacturers, doctors, non-profits
and other service-based small businesses. In the field, Dan has a
firsthand ability to talk with business owners and help them deal
with all of their business needs from computers to payroll, to
security and real estate issues his clients may have.
Dan is
also a member of the Program Advisory Committee at
Westwood College in
Torrance; he regularly meets with them to advice on their
curriculum to make sure that the students are going to emerge from
their programs ready to meet the requirements of an ever changing
information technology industry
Early Life and Family

Dan Kalmick was born in Long Beach on July 19, 1982. Dan
Kalmick’s tradition of community service began with his becoming a
charter member of the Leo Club in 1996, while he was growing up in
the sunny, conservative city of Seal Beach. Additionally with the
help of faculty and administrators, Dan worked diligently to help
craft Los Alamitos Unified School District’s emerging technology
policy on the district technology steering committee. Dan Kalmick
continued on to academic success by graduating from Los Alamitos
High School in the top .5% and went on to obtain his degree in
Electrical and Computer Engineering from
University of California,
Berkeley in a mere three years. After graduation Dan Kalmick
continued down the path of information technology consulting that
he had begun at age 11. In 2004, he started Flashlight
Technologies, a Strategic and Information Technology Consulting
company for small and medium businesses in Orange and Los Angeles
Counties. At roughly the same time, Dan began training to join his
father and uncle as a volunteer firefighter in Seal Beach as a way
to give something back to a community that had given him so much.
In September of 2004 with his EMT completed, Dan finished his
training and joined the ranks of the Orange County Fire
Authority.
Serving the community is a Kalmick family value. His
father, Joe grew up in Brentwood and attended
University of California,
Los Angeles before heading on to
NASA to work with the monkeys before the Mercury
Program and then opened his custom picture framing store on Main
St. in Seal Beach. He has worked a volunteer firefighter there for
30 years. His mother was born in Alta Dena, CA. Her father worked
for Lockheed during WWII as a tool builder for prototypes and
airplanes. She attended
Cal State Los Angeles, where she
received her undergraduate degree in Art and a Masters Degree in
child development. She owned her own commercial photo studio in the
city of Commerce working with such local companies as May Co.,
See’s Candy, and Thirty. Dan’s parents met on the beach in Seal
Beach which is where they have spent their lives together ever
since. Dan’s brother, Chris, joined the army in 1987 and fought in
the first gulf war before being honorably discharged and joining
the LA County Fire Dept. Chris’s wife, Jody, works for the Torrance
Fire Department. Dan’s uncle, Fred, works with his father at the
frame shop in Seal Beach. Along with being a volunteer firefighter,
in his off time Fred runs a successful apparel printing business
and at age 60 still rides motorcycles competitively in the
California desert.
Professional Experience

Dan
Kalmick began his professional technology career at the age of 11
working as a free-lance consultant for local residents and
businesses in Seal Beach. At the age of 14, Dan was recognized for
his technological expertise by Channel 4 News, Hard Copy, US News

At age 15, Dan
started his career at
America Online in the internal computing
division under the director of West Coast Technical Operations.
Upon graduating from the
University of California,
Berkeley with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical and
Computer Engineering, Dan took a position as Information Technology
Director for HCG North America, which is the American operations
for Hocheng Corporation, the largest manufacturer of bathroom
equipment in Taiwan.
After leaving HCG, Dan formed Flashlight
Technologies, a Strategic and Information Technology Consulting
agency for small and medium businesses in the Los Angeles and
Orange County area.
Congressional Campaign 2008
On
January 17, 2008 Dan Kalmick declared his candidacy for congress in
order to challenge nie term incumbent
Dana Rohrabacher
for his congressional seat. Running as a Democrat, Dan Kalmick will
mobilize the youth vote and inspire Independents and moderate
Republicans for change. <ref>
