Dan McLean is a
Canadian news anchor.
He currently co-anchors
CH News at Noon with Connie Smith, and anchors
CH News at Six solo on
CHCH-TV in
Hamilton, Ontario.
He also hosts
CH Niagara Express on the station.
Dan has been at CH for 35 years.
Within that time, Dan has risen through the ranks to attain his status as one of the most recognizable anchors in the Southern Ontario broadcast market.
In addition, Dan's unwavering devotion to his community and profession have earned him the much deserved admiration and accolades of viewers and peers alike.
Since arriving at
CHCH-TV in 1971, Dan has gone from commercial announcer to back up anchor to host of the MID-DAY Show and New Faces.
Dan then became anchor of the 6 and 11 o'clock newscasts in 1980 and co-hosted the News at Noon for several years during the 90s.
In September 2003, Dan became the sole anchor of
CH News at Six.
In addition to his newsroom responsibilities, Dan is a model for community involvement.
Over the years Dan has emceed hundreds of local charity events and fundraising galas.
He has hosted fundraising dinners and events featuring Presidents' Bill Clinton and George Bush, New York Governor Mario Como, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and Prince Charles.
He has also chaired several fundraising events including the Red Cross Side By Side Campaign, Chairman of the 95-96 Burlington, Hamilton Wentworth United Way Campaign and most recently he Co-chaired the Hamilton Regional Cancer Centre Hope Can't Wait Campaign, raising $16 million to pay the community share of a multi-million dollar expansion of treatment facilities for cancer patients in Central West.
Dan is also the original host of the Children's Hospital Telethon that has raised over $16 million for our children's health care.
Dan Currently sits on the Cancer Centre Foundation Board of Directors and on the board of the Atrium Villa, a senior's facility specializing in care for those suffering from Alzheimer's.
Dan has also shared his wealth of industry knowledge with the next wave of Canadian Broadcasters.
Teaching at
Mohawk College, Dan imparted students with his valuable insight into Issues and Ethics, and Broadcast Journalism as a whole.
In addition, Dan speaks to various groups at all levels of the education system as well as service clubs and business groups throughout Hamilton, Halton and Niagara about his work, volunteerism, journalism and the Broadcast Industry in general.
Throughout his career in Hamilton, Dan has been recognized with numerous awards from all levels of government.
Dan was made a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary's highest award for his community work.
He was also named Hamilton's Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 2001.
McLean also received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteers in Ontario, the province of Ontario's highest award.
In addition, he was named Broadcaster of the Year by the Ontario Association of Broadcasters and awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, recognizing his community involvement.
He was presented with the Ontario Association of Broadcaster's Howard Caine Community Achievement award as well as the CanWest Spirit of Community award.
Dan is married with three grown children, enjoys country living, horseback riding, scuba diving, carpentry, motorcycles and a host of sports activities.
