Daniel Ayers 'Dan' Gilbert, (b. 1946) was a candidate in the 2008 presidential election for President of the United States in the Republican primary and a businessman from North Carolina.

Biography

Gilbert was born in 1946 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 1968 he married his first wife, Judy, who died in 1976. Gilbert graduated from Virginia Tech in 1969 with a BS in Civil Engineering. In 1982 he married his second wife, Linda.[1]

He retired in 1998 after he sold his business that made music software for use in elevators.[2]

Daniel Gilbert placed third at the 9th Annual Coalition of New Hampshire Taxpayers Family Reunion Picnic straw poll held on July 7, 2007. He received 20 votes, behind Rudy Giuliani, who had 22 votes, and Ron Paul, who had 182 votes. There were a total of 294 votes cast in this poll.[3]

On January 3, 2008 Gilbert earned no recorded votes in the Republican Iowa caucus, according to results posted on the Website of the Iowa Republican Party. Gilbert appeared on few state ballots and won only 483 votes during the primaries that followed.
