Dark Wings was a project started in September of
2006 by the author Alawna. Originally, it began as a fiction-based
documentary on life during her Junior year of high school at
Southeast and was
written as a short story simply to entertain friends. However, with
popularity and demand for more, if became a full-length novel.
While most of the events therein are fictional, many of the events
that happen during the course of the day, as well as many of the
characters and places are actually happenings and people she
knew.
The Story
The plot of this story is heavily based
on Guardian Angels and what being an Angel might be like, what
rules and restrictions might exist for them in a time where Heaven
and Hell are no longer accepted as a definite truth. There are
elements of action, comedy, romance, and mystery involved.
The Charatcers
The main story line focuses on the main
character Raven Emerald Dark (who is based heavily upon Alawna
herself), and a man going by the name of Leth, who is claiming to
be her Guardian Angel. Raven, being eager for any chance at
grasping something supernatural, accepts his story readily. She has
little skepticism, as she truly desires to have anything close to
abnormal in her life. Leth seems so distant sometimes, like he
doesn't want her--or anyone--to know eveything about him.
There
are many highly important supporting characters as well, including
Raven's fraternal twin, Jesicah Andrea Dark (who is base only
slightly upon one of Alawna's closest friends), another man who
calls himself Braze, and Sarah, one of Raven's dear friends. Jesi
is the exact opposite of Raven and Sarah. She is a cheerleader and
very much on the "popular" end of high school society, whereas
Raven and her friends are the darker ones, the ones who people look
at and automatically think "freaks".
IRL Happenings
As
mentioned earlier, many of the events and people in this novel are
based upon real life. Below are a few of these instances:
The
scene where Sarah comes up talking about a kid named Aaron

with the supernatural and love of storms are both qualities of the

teacher mentioned are real people (with slight changes given to fit
the storyline). Several characters who show up for one scene are
also real people. The park they visit in the chapter Baseball
