Darkroom Familia is a Chicano rap group with members from various parts of Northern California. They were originally formed in 1988. Like other burgeoning gangster rappers of the era, major labels weren't quick to sign such bands, so the band members had to sell their tapes by taking them personally to record stores in the area as word of mouth quickly began to spread. Darkroom Familia became one of rap's most prolific bands, issuing albums (whether it be by the band or solo releases by its members) at an extremely brisk rate.[1] They have drawn attention for being the first and most famous NorteƱo affiliated rappers. They also released one of the first all spanish rap albums Los Traficantes - Matan Mi Gente. Apart from being the first Northern Cali Latin rappers to appear on the cover of hip-hop magazine Murder Dog, Darkroom Familia were the first Bay Area rappers to have their films distributed in rental and retail stores worldwide, they have made 16 films.[2]

Darkroom Familia are a hardcore hip hop group of Chicano and African American rappers. Their CD "Los Traficantes - Matan Mi Gente" was influenced by traditional Mexican corridos. They put out their first tape in 1988, and are still releasing tracks to this day. Lead rapper, Sir Dyno is serving a seven year sentence on Federal charges dating back a few years, and is now said to be retired. Latin gangster rappers DarkRoom Familia hail from Hayward, CA (a town close to Oakland), and were originally formed in 1988. Like other burgeoning gangster rappers of the era, major labels weren't quick to sign such bands, so the bandmembers had to sell their tapes by taking them personally to record stores in the area as word of mouth quickly began to spread. DarkRoom Familia became one of rap's most prolific bands, issuing albums (whether it be by the band or solo releases by its members) at an extremely brisk rate. Eight albums were issued between 1999 and 2001 alone, including such titles as Traficantes, Veteranos, Felony Consequences, From the Barrio With Love, Gang Stories: The Darkroom Uncensored, Homicide Kings, Smile Now Cry Later, and Men of Honor, as well as the compilation Barrio Classics: 1988-1998.

Members of Darkroom include Sir Dyno, Oso, D-Roll and Duke, Crooked.
