DataCore Software is an independent software vendor specializing in storage virtualization, storage management, and storage networking. Founded in 1998, the privately-held firm operates global sales, support and service from headquarters in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and through worldwide subsidiaries and distribution partners.

History


DataCore Software was founded February 4, 1998 by Chairman and CTO Ziya A. Aral and President and CEO George S.Teixeira and a team of 10 other founders with proven engineering and support backgrounds. The original team of 12 had previously designed and pioneered high-end storage subsystems together at Encore Computer, engineering major innovations in storage. Having a history of building high-end storage systems in the traditional mode, Ziya, George, and the rest of the founding team knew there had to be a better way.

Therefore, in 1998 they decided as a team that they could do it on their own and set off to build high-end storage functionality in software that was designed to be portable and flexible enough to harness and incorporate the evolution of hardware advances and the constantly improving economics of commoditization.

Virtual Storage

Virtualization gives you a simple way to manage and look at things that are very complicated such as complex, physical devices like computers, disk drives or storage arrays. It turns physical devices and their specific complexities into simpler-to-use software representations of those devices. What virtual servers have done is turn computers into icons virtual machines. When you click on the icon, you can then create or deliver a new virtual machine - a representation of a computer. Virtual storage, likewise, turns the disk drives of many, even disparate, storage devices into an icon virtual disks. By simply clicking on the icon, you can serve, protect, copy and provision storage. Simply put, this virtualized approach gives you a network service that extracts the resources and services you want from an available pool. That pool can be servers from a pool of virtual servers, storage from a pool of virtual storage, or printers from a pool of printers a concept that we all understand. What all these advances have done is turn independently managed devices into a network accessible service. Clicking an icon on a centralized console replaces the need to run around and manually manage and administer many physical devices.

They are simple to operate, take only minutes to install, and let you cost-effectively optimize, manage and protect data storage and disk space.
