Dattebayo is a fansubbing group that first appeared under the alias YHBT. They take Japanese cartoons which have not aired in the United States and translate them hard encoding the translations to the bottom of the screen as subtitles. They are mainly known for subbing the shows Naruto and BLEACH. They took their name from a word ending often used by Naruto Uzumaki, their slogan: Believe it, is also taken from Naruto, the phrase "believe it" replaced dattebayo in the English version of the show.

Otakon Arrests

On July 21st, 2007, five members of the Dattebayo staff were arrested at the Baltimore Convention Center as they prepared for their panel as part of the Otakon Convention. Four uniformed police officers, along with legal counsel of a complaintent company, approached the stage shortly before the presentation was to begin. Witnesses said that along with the arrest, the officers seized the laptop of one of the group members, which was intended to be used for presentation purposes.<ref> </ref>

On July 24th, 2007, state police arrived at the homes of several of the staff members who were arrested in Baltimore. There they exercised a warrant to search and seize any electronic devices with the ability to copy, modify or redistribute audio and/or video media of a copyrighted nature. As such, several computers, hard drives, and even a few VCRs were seized during evidence collection.<ref> </ref>

On July 26th, 2007, following the earlier searches of several staff members' homes, the state police arrived at the homes of the remaining members who had been arrested in Baltimore. However, when they arrived at the home of David Pryor, age 29 (one of the staff members) they (found) that (he) had removed all the hard drives from his computer and they now lay in pieces in a garbage bag. Frustrated officers then began to yell at that (Pryor) and accused him of destroying evidence. When (he) met their response with silence they decided to take him into custody. Family members looked on in shock as they tasered Pryor repeatedly despite him not fighting back. (Pryor then) began to convulse on the floor. Doctors would later say that Pryor had suffered an epileptic seizure, possibly resulting from the repeated tasering. Officers claim they then mistook these convulsions for an attempt at escape and one of the officers fired his firearm. At 2:43 am, July 27th, 2007, Pryor was pronounced dead (from the) gunshot injury inflicted by a state police officer during the execution of (the) search and seizure warrant on his home. </ref>

The Otakon story is only a troll. On the bottom of the official article it states YHBT (you have been trolled). It has been made invisible by using white fonts on a white background. It can be visible by highlighting the bottom part or by searching for the string "yhbt".
