David Ashe was born in
Norfolk, Virginia
in
1968. He grew up in
Virginia Beach, Virginia and then
attended
Virginia Tech. After graduation he moved to
Washington,
DC and attended the
District of Columbia School
of Law as well as the
U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidate
School, from which in
1996 he
was commissioned a second lieutenant. One year later he finished
law school and passed the bar.
From
1999 until
September 2001, Ashe provided legal services for
Marines. Immediately following the
September 11, 2001 attacks he
drove to
New
York City and served in the bucket brigade rescue team. Two
weeks later Ashe was recalled to active duty, where he was
eventually assigned to
Operation Enduring Freedom
in
Kuwait. From
March 2003 until
October 2003,
Ashe was deployed in
Iraq.
David Ashe ran an unsuccesful campaign for
a
U.S.
Congress
seat in
Virginia's
VA-02
as a
Democrat. He lost to
Republican
Thelma Drake
who stepped into the race after incumbent
Ed Schrock suspended his re-election bid.
David Ashe plans to run again against
Thelma Drake in the 2006
election for the same seat.
