David Casals-Roma (born 13 October 1972 - Lleida, Spain) is a Spanish writer/director based in the United Kingdom.[1]

When he finished his high school education, he began writing short stories and play scripts, often whilst doing other jobs. He also worked as an administrative assistant in a solicitors office, and it was this experience that made him want to study law (although he decided to abandon his studies three years later)[1]

He then met his current partner, Merce in 1996, and that was then they decided to leave their jobs and travel round Europe. The following year he moved to Amsterdam and began learning the intricacies of the film business whilst working in IT.[1] His first experience as a film producer came two years later, when he made two short, low budget films. His continuing stream of short films, which he had directed, wrote and produced himself, was awarded with a place in a Spanish film festival, and convinced him to pursue a professional career in the film industry[1]

In 2001, he studied film production at the London Academy of Radio Film and Television, and a BA in Film and Media at Birkbeck University of London, which he graduated in 2006. He also enrolled in different screenwriting and directing courses in Spain, United Kingdom, Italy and the United States and was also chosen, amongst 14 other European film makers, to participate in a workshop in Potenza, in Italy, under the direction of Abbas Kiarostami, a Cannes Palme d'Or winner[1].

David has directed six short films and has written several feature film scripts. He has won different awards in Europe, Asia and America, and is now working on The Londoner, his feature film directional debut.[1] As well as film making, he has written short stories and been a script writer for other projects, and speaks fluent Spanish, Catalan, English, Italian and French.[1]
