Michael Dailey II was born March 31, 1985 in
Norfolk,
Virginia. Dailey was named after his father David Michael
Dailey I, a house painter. David's mother, Rebecca Dailey, is a
special education teacher for Norfolk Public Schools at an inner
city High School.
Dailey attended Granby Elementary School in
Norfolk from 1990-1996, and then went on to attend Blair Middle
School from 1996-1999. It was in his 6th grade Social Studies class
that he developed his passion for politics. It was the 1996
Presidential Election, and Dailey’s teacher was a avid
Bob Dole supporter. At
the age of 11, Dailey handily debated his much older school teacher
on why he though
Bill Clinton was and would continue to be a
great president.
After Blair, Dailey attended Matthew F. Maury
High School in Norfolk and graduated with honors in 2003. After
High School, Dailey went on to attend the prestigious
American
University in Washington, DC. He is currently seeking a B.A. in
Political Science and a Minor in Economics.

While in High School, Dailey held
several part time jobs. His first job was at the local
IHOP where Dailey bussed
tables. After only a month at IHOP, Dailey walked off the job
because of unfair wages and long work days. At the age of 16,
Dailey applied to the HMS Host licensed Starbucks at Macarthur Mall
in Norfolk. By the time Dailey was a senior in High School, he had
been promoted to Shift Supervisor. At the age of 17, Dailey was the
youngest manager at the Norfolk branch of HMS Host. In the summer
of 2003, shortly before leaving Norfolk for Washington, Dailey quit
HMS Host because he was not being paid fairly. Older managers, who
were less experienced, were receiving higher wages. Dailey took his
expertise as a Starbucks barista and supervisor to a corporate
Starbucks at
Military Circle in Norfolk. Although the manager knew she would
have to transfer Dailey within two months of hiring him, she agreed
to bring him into her store as a shift supervisor. Dailey helped
bring in many new people to that store, many of which he knew from
his two years at the HMS Host Starbucks concept. Dailey transferred
to DC when he left Norfolk for American University. Dailey is still
a successful shift supervisor at the Starbucks in Glover Park.
In his freshman year at American University, Dailey applied
for an internship with his Congressman from back home - the
Honorable
Bobby
Scott (D-VA). After two months of being an unpaid intern,
Scott's office offered Dailey a salary stipend. Scott's office also
began to give Dailey extra responsibilities. Dailey assists
Congressman Scott with Environmental and Energy issues. Dailey also
handles many legislative correspondent duties, such as writing
speeches and drafting responses to constituents.
What
the Future Holds for David Dailey*:After graduating from
American University in 2007, Dailey began working full time on the
Hill as a Legislative Assistant. He went on to get his Master’s
Degree in Political Science from the George Washington University.
After earning his MA, Dailey went on to get his law degree from
Georgetown University.
At the age of 26, Dailey returned to
his native Norfolk. He got a job as a Commonwealth Attorney and
became a powerful advocate for the people of Norfolk and Virginia.
After only two years as a Commonwealth Attorney, Dailey had become
a prominent figure in local politics. At the age of 28, Dailey was
elected Mayor of Norfolk in a landslide. In his six years in
office, Mayor Dailey successful attracted a major league baseball
team and an NBA team to Norfolk (a feat his predecessors struggled
and failed to do). Baseball and basketball was a huge success for
Norfolk and the local economy grew exponentially when Dailey was
Mayor. At 34 Dailey used his success as Mayor to run for the
congressional seat that had been vacated by his former boss,
Congressman Robert C. Scott. The third congressional district of
Virginia is a predominantly black district, but Dailey won the
support of the local black community and defeated his Republican
opponent in a landslide.
Dailey only spent three terms in the
House of Representatives. In his six years in Congress, Dailey
served on the House Ways and Means committee and led the way in
reforming the tax code. Some say that Dailey’s tax policy was
radical. He originally proposed taxing those that made $1 million
or more a year at a 42% rate. His tax rate for the wealthy did not
pass; however, his tax reform for lower income Americans did.
Dailey led a bipartisan effort to eliminate income taxes at the
federal level for single people making less than $26,000, and
families making $40,000 a year.
After his successful years in
Congress, Dailey ran for
Governor of Virginia. With his record
of fiscal responsibility, Dailey was able to overcome the label
“liberal” and easily defeated his opponent. Virginia restricts
their Governors to only one term, so Dailey made the best of his
four years in office. He balanced the budget; he raised teacher
salaries; he expanded healthcare for the poor in Virginia; student
test scores went up; drop out rates went down; and the Virginia
economy prospered.
By the late 2020s, Dailey was often
mentioned as a possible presidential candidate. Close friends to
the Governor always denied that he had presidential ambitions. For
two years prior to the 2032 Presidential Election, the Democratic
Party was looking for a charismatic southerner to regain the White
House after four consecutive losses. Poll after Poll showed support
for Fmr. Virginia Gov. David Dailey. Dailey did not make a final
decision to jump into the presidential race until four weeks before
the Iowa Caucuses. Many thought he would never be able to raise
enough money to run an effective race. Dailey proved all the
pundits wrong by narrowly winning in Iowa. He went on to win the
nomination. In November 2032, Gov. David Dailey became the 51st
President of the United States. He had returned the Democrats to
the White House after 16 years. Dailey was easily reelected in
2036.

After leaving office in 2041, Dailey was not ready to retire.
In 2042, he returned to his beloved Virginia and ran for the U.S.
Senate. With his immense popularity in Virginia, the Republicans
did not even bother to challenge him. Dailey became only the second
former President to be elected to the Senate after his presidency.
Dailey retired in 2073 and returned home to Norfolk.
David M.
Dailey passed away in 2091 at the age of 106.
