David Pfeffer is a
Candidate for the
Republican nomination for the
New Mexico US Senate
Election, 2006. He is currently a member of the
Santa Fe
City Council,
and is a former Democrat.
Pfeffer was born in
New York and was drafted in the
US Army during the
Vietnam War, and
he served from 1965-1967, and received a
Purple Heart. After
returning from the War, and being
honorably
discharged from the
military, he became an active
Anti-War Activist. He later assisted the
Israeli Workforce during the
Yom Kippur War, due in
part to his
Jewish
heritage. He was elected to the
Sante Fe City Council in
2002 as a Democrat, after having been a
Candidate for it in 1998. However, by 2004 Pfeffer was slowly
becoming disillusioned with his party, and during the
US
Presidential Election, 2004 he supported
George W. Bush. In
2005, he finally changed his registration
to
Republican.
He is running on the issue of
Immigration Reform, and on his
support for the
War in Iraq. He is expected to win the
Republican Nomination for US Senate over Ex. State Senator
Tom
Benavides, and a pair of other minor challengers. However,
Democrat
Incumbent
Senator Jeff Bingaman is expected
to win in the General Election.
