The
Davidson Young Scholars program, a component of the
Davidson Institute for Talent Development, assists profoundly intelligent
Young Scholars in locating a challenging learning environment.
The Young Scholars are children who need a learning environment fit to them.
The YS program fits those needs and also provides a community of peers to them.
The Young Scholars program also aids the families of the profoundly gifted and talented with consultations and financial support to help Young Scholars develop their talents in hopes that these gifts will make a positive difference in the global community.
In addition, the Davidson Institute holds annual gatherings and seminars across the country for the Young Scholars to support relationships between both families and the parents and children themselves.
The Davidson Young Scholars Program provides FREE services designed to nurture and support members of an underserved population, profoundly gifted young people.
Students and their parents are assisted in the areas of educational advocacy, social and emotional development, talent development and peer connections.
Our services can help students draw upon their unique skills, talents and interests to maximize their educational potential and make a difference in the lives of others.
Among the services offered, are:
Educational Planning – helping students find schooling situations that appropriately challenge their advanced abilities.
Talent Development – developing a student’s talents in an area of interest by helping find an appropriate mentor or teacher to guide them (e.g., through a project). Social and Emotional Support – locating resources and experts to help address emotional or social needs that may be related to the student’s extreme exceptionality.With regional gatherings and a large online community, Davidson Young Scholars and their parents have the opportunity to connect with others throughout the country to build friendships, share experiences and learn from each other.
Davidson Young Scholars and their parents also have access to:
Nationally-recognized experts, counselors and university professors in a wide variety of disciplines. Financial assistance grants, based upon the individual family’s need.
Eligibility
An applicant must be between the ages of 5 and 18 when their application is submitted, and must also be a U.S. citizen residing in the United States or a permanent U.S. resident.
Evidence of extreme intellectual precocity must be demonstrated as described in the Davidson Young Scholar’s online qualification criteria, specifically extreme aptitudes and abilities at or above the 99th percentile as measured by intelligence and achievement tests and/or a demonstration of the ability to function at the level of a talented adult in a specific academic domain.
