One of the leading educational and cultural centres in Kerala, South India, Dayapuram, works for the progress of the underprivileged such as orphans and destitute with special emphasis on women. This complex, which accommodates more than 2000 students in 5 institutions is run by Al Islam Charitable Trust, Calicut, was started in 1983. Dayapuram showed a unique model by giving equal education, facilities and treatment to orphans as well as children of the rich twenty-three years ago, alongside accommodating children from all religious backgrounds in the orphanage. Nobody can point out an “orphan” on this campus, though there are 100 plus orphans here. The Dayapuram team carries out their work as part of their social responsibility and never for money or other returns in kind. All th money that is generated from the educational work is used for the education of poor children. The head quarters is situated in a salubrious 40 acre land. The campus is committed to instill values like religious harmony, social equality, humanitarian concerns and social commitment among the Dayapuram Family members. This campus also tries to resist the encroachment of power and money on education by attempting to be just and impartial. Now Dayapuram is launching a set of programmes that will give it a crucial social role and international visibility. It endeavours to be a meeting point of people all over who are inspired and keen on doing something for the society. The founding force of this campus was Mr.C.T.Abdurahiman, a scholar in Islamic Theology and history with his scholarly base in Qatar, and the team that formed under his leadership and Sheikh Abdulla Ibrahim Al Ansari from Qatar was the inspiration behind this venture.
