de_train is a fairly popular
Bomb/Defusal map in the
first-person shooter game
Counter-Strike. Originally released with
Beta 5.0 of
Counter-Strike on December 23, 1999, the map
was one of two (the other being
cs_backalley) contributed to the mod by
Barking Dog Studios who at that point
were contracted by Valve to work on
Counter-Strike. The
map was ported over to
Counter-Strike: Source by
Turtle Rock Studios and released on
February 24, 2005. The map is set in a
train yard.
The Map
Train has two
bomb sites, as is usual for Counter-Strike maps of this type. The
Counter-Terrorists spawn is in a location which is a very short
distance from both of these bomb sites, whereas the Terrorists have
to travel a longer way to get to either, their spawn point being at
the opposite end of the map. The bomb-sites are nuclear arms
caches, located on two separate carriages.
Overall, this is
quite a balanced map, and a strong Counter-Terrorist or Terrorist
team can easily dominate the server for the entire duration of the
map, at least on public servers where cooperation, skill, and
teamwork are usually non-existent.
Criticism
Screenshot of Bombsite B in the Counter-Strike:
Source version
This map is well suited to the use of the controversial
AWM, due to the presence of many
long corridors and passages, and large open spaces with dark areas
at either end of the spaces.
