Dean A. Del Mastro, (born August 16, 1970 in Peterborough, Ontario) is a Canadian politician, and a Conservative Member of Canada's House of Commons. He was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2006, representing the riding of Peterborough in eastern Ontario. This seat had been held by Liberal Peter Adams since 1993.

Del Mastro began high school in Lakefield, Ontario, and graduated from Adam Scott Collegiate and Vocational Institute in Peterborough. He is a graduate of the Odette School of Business University of Windsor receiving his Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree. Since then, he has served as chairman of the Suzuki Canada Dealer Advisory Board, and as Vice President and part owner of Del Mastro Motors Ltd.

Political career

Del Mastro won his seat in the 2006 federal election with 22,774 votes (35.9% of the vote share), over Liberal Diane Lloyd (20,532 votes and 32.4% of the vote share), and New Democrat Linda Slavin (16,286 votes and 25.7% of the vote share). Del Mastro won by a margin of 3.5% of the total vote. In the most recent general election held in October 2008, Del Mastro was re-elected setting records for the riding for most total votes at 27,630 and percentage of the popular vote with 47.4% carrying a margin of victory of 16% over the Liberal candidate Betsy MacGregor.

Del Mastro supports pro-life positions and is against same-sex marriage.^[1] In late 2006, he voted in favour of revisiting the same-sex marriage issue.^[2]

Del Mastro was appointed the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage in October 2008. In his previous term of office during the 39th Parliament he served on the Standing Committee on Finance, the Standing Committee for Canadian Heritage as well as the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics. He was re-elected in the 2008 federal election.
