Axel Davis

Death By Religion is a heavy metal band based in Surfers paradise on the Gold Coast. The band has recieved much publicity in recent months concerning the controversial nature of their second album "Buddhists aren't cool". Despite being negatively viewed by the public, DBR still has a small fangroup following.

Early Days

Death by Religion was formed when Axel Davis' mother suggested the idea to him and decided it was a good way to channel his ADHD triggered anger.<ref name="Genius"> Axel Davis, Genius 2007, television programme, ABC television, Sydney, 8 August.</ref> He phoned his friend Chin Hin-yao, who'd already become quite an avid Xylophone player, and agreed to start a band together. They soon recruited Fred Blacktown, a boy of Aboriginal Australian heritage. While first contrary to the idea, Fred eventually agreed after Axel made a proposal of a 5-dollar note. <ref name="Genius"> </ref> Marco Lopez, an admirer of Axels' extraordinary Alchemy skills, decided to join the band for the chance to get to know Axel. Axel then had difficulties finding more members as this was basically the extent of his social network. Using the alchemy he found in his scrapbook, he crafted a guitar machine. He named it 'Joel Patriano.' <ref name="Son"> Davis, T 2008, My Son Axel, Franklin Watts Brisbane. </ref>

'The Eighth Wonder of the World'

DBR's first official album, 'the Eighth Wonder of the World' included some of DBR's most popular songs such as "Turning Rubbish Into Gold", but was critisized for it's supposedly homosexual influence. .<ref name="Genius"> </ref> The rather pretentious album title implying that the album is one of the world's wonders was also not taken well by critics. The album managed to sell 300 copies. <ref name="Son"> Davis, T 2008, My Son Axel, Franklin Watts Brisbane. <ref name="Son"> </ref>

'Buddhists Aren't Cool'

The controversial nature of the title given to this album has inevitably destroyed the band's reputation, although many were confused as to why the band gave the album that title as two of the band members are actually well respected Buddhists. Nonetheless, the band has permanently scarred itself and has recieved very bad press in recent months.<ref name="Genius"> </ref>
