Club career

Bobô started the 2007-08 season by scoring 3 goals in the first 3 matches; most notably scoring twice in the 3–0 victory over FC Sherrif in Champions League 2. qualifying round. Beşiktaş board discussed to extend Bobô's contract after his successful form in early season. Right after the consensus provided between two side, Bobô had committed his future to Kara Kartallar until 2011 which has already declared to IMKB as his annual fee was increased to 1.15 million Euros.[2]

On 20 October 2007, Saturday, Beşiktaş faced Trabzonspor on a crucial encounter due to critics by media authorities on both side coaches. Blacksea region team opened the game with 2 goals in early minutes of the first half (Gökdeniz on 1st and Yattara on 6th min.) and equalized the score with header of Burak and Delgado's penalty just before the half time.[1]

In the second half, Beşiktaş goalkeeper Rüştü was sent off for handling outside of the box in the 79th minute and Bobô replaced him until the end of the game. He had several saves during Bordo-Mavililers attacks and performed a vital help for this historic away victory.[3]

He later declared that he had feared some of Trabzonspor attacks, particularly during the free-kick of Trabzon's playmaker Ceyhun and striker Umut's header. He told the press:[2]

"I applied for goal as keeper to help my team. I wasn't physically ready at the beginning of season. I had difficulties with my knee and back. I had attended the games late minutes."

Additionally he said:

"Cisse was also willing to replace the goalkeeper. I just realized that i felt good and thought that i wouldn't concede a goal. The threats from near by our line were dangerous. I was really dreading free-kick of Ceyhun Eriş. To be a keeper is a difficult role. You could concede in any tiny error."

On 25 October 2007, Beşiktaş played with Liverpool at Inonu Stadium at Champions League clash. Home side won the game with 2–1 final score as Bobô placed himself in scoresheet.[4]

On 3 November 2007, Saturday, 11th matchday of Turkish League Beşiktaş clashed with Fenerbahçe in Kadıköy as Bobô opened up the score with his breakthrough on 3rd minute of the game. However, he also missed several occasions rest of the game and Beşiktaş could not manage to win. The final score was 2–1 and Fenerbahçe had a victory against Beşiktaş after 6.5 years as home side.[5] This was the 319th encounter between two teams.[6]

On 10 November 2007, Beşiktaş played against Sivasspor which was on a good form, and was defeated by the opponents with final score of 1–2. Despite his team lost the match, Bobô scored his 38th goal of his Beşiktaş spelling in official matches. Thus, he broke the record of the all-time top scorer of former Bosnian footballer Mirsad Kovačevič.[7]

On 28 November 2007, Wednesday, Beşiktaş hosted Marseille on the matchday 5 in Champions League. Bobô scored the winning goal of his team just before the final whistle on 88th minute after a lob through pass by Delgado towards the space on right wing where Bobô picked the ball up. Then he went though the box and beaten French team keeper Mandanda.[8] The final score was 2–1 for Beşiktaş.[9] The team kept the hopes until the last encounter against Porto to be qualified to 2nd Round. However, Beşiktaş could not manage to get a victory in Portugal and eliminated as the bottom team at the Group A.

He played an important role at Beşiktaş to win the Turkey Cup and Turkish Super League Cup in 2008-2009 season. He scored 11 goals in the Turkish Super League Cup making him the top scorer among Beşiktaş players.

International career

On 4 February 2008, he was called up to the Brazil national football team to face Ireland on February 6, replacing the injured Alexandre Pato.[10] However, he did not made his first international appearance as he remained on the substitute bench for the whole match.
