Delnor Hospital is a hospital located in
Geneva,
Illinois.
History
Founded on December 19, 1908 by Dr.
Raymond G. Scott,
Colonial Hospital, with its nine
beds, was located on Third Street in Geneva. This Greek
Revival-style home , built in 1850 and known as the H.B. Wells
House, also served as the home of Dr. Scott and his family.
By
1924 Geneva had outgrown the Colonial Hospital, and a
community-wide fundraising effort led to the founding of Community
Hospital. On February 6, 1925, eighteen patients were moved from
Colonial Hospital to Fieldstone House, which had been built in 1892
by Captain Christian Bowman Dodson, which was named
Community Hospital.
In 1940, a 25-bed hospital
opened in St. Charles. The new facility was named Delnor Hospital
after its generous benefactors Dellora A. and Lester J. Norris.
This beautiful hospital featured interiors designed by
nationally-known interior decorator, Dorothy Draper; while the
medical areas were equipped with the most up-to-date technology of
the time. Over the years, the hospital expanded to 105 beds.
In
1986, Delnor and Community Hospitals combined to form the new
Delnor-Community Hospital. A new combined hospital
opened on
Randall
Road on August 1, 1991.
