History

Delta Chi Psi traces its roots to the beginning of Spring 2002. The organization originally formed as Temple Asian Brothers United (TABU) at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. TABU's mission was to fill the lack of community and brotherhood in the Philadelphia Area and to find the first Asian-Interest Fraternity. TABU remained an official Temple University Student Organization until the summer of 2004.

In the summer of 2004, several active members of TABU met to lay the groundwork for Delta Chi Psi. Seven members of TABU choose to undergo this endeavor. They were Alex Chang, Isaac Alston, Kevin Mui, Tuan Dinh, Dangwei Zhao, Enoch Lee, and Liang Huang. The group also enlisted James Li and Andrew Park from Villanova University. With this, the group now consisted of nine individuals.

In the fall of 2004 the members entered into their own education program. Upon completion, they emerged on the 18th of December 2004 as Delta Chi Psi's first brothers and ultimately the Founding Fathers of the fraternity.

Delta Chi Psi has been in existence since and new brothers come into the fraternity every semester. Currently, Delta Chi Psi has 50 brothers and continues to provide community and brotherhood to students of the Philadelphia region. Delta Chi Psi's Rush commences near the beginning of each academic semester throughout the Philadelphia area universities . The fraternity is an official member of Temple University Greek Council as of April 7, 2008.

"The founders started DXPsi to unify the Asian community at Temple, make the Asian community at Temple more visible, and to preserve Asian culture among its members. DXPsi promotes networking, social and interpersonal skills as well as academic achievement. DXPsi pushes its brothers to thrive for excellence and to be leaders among their peers. DXPsi is not your typical fraternity. Being an Asian-interest and cultural fraternity their key values are respect and dignity. One of the main goals of the fraternity is to make a difference in the Asian American community. They want to pass down Asian culture and its values from one generation to another. These things are what set them apart from other Greek organizations."

Mission statement

The mission of Delta Chi Psi is to promote brotherhood, preserve Asian/American culture, raise Asian/American awareness and help our brothers reach their full potential. Through community service, recreational activities, social events and personal challenges, Delta Chi Psi guides its brothers to become dedicated, determined and dignified individuals.[2]

Philanthropy

In the Fall of 2007, the brothers of Delta Chi Psi formally adopted a national philanthropy to support the efforts to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke. For many patients, heart disease plagues our community and takes away the lives of our dear loved ones. By increasing Asian American awareness, Delta Chi Psi hopes to provide a gateway for others to seek knowledge and assistance within and not limited to the Asian community. To pay tribute to the victims of heart disease, DXPsi has created a campaign called “Race for a Cause” where brothers run in the Philadelphia Marathon and spread awareness through donations and contributions aimed towards the American Heart Association.

The fraternity takes an active part in giving back to the surrounding community in Philadelphia by participating in community service events through the year. As a complement to the university value of social responsibility Delta Chi Psi has held its commitment to community service through these following events.[3]

  • Philadelphia Cares Day
  • R.A.P.E. - Rape Awareness Preventive Workshop
  • Asian Americans United - Mid-Autumn Festival
  • Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure
  • Red Cross Walk
  • American Cancer Society Relay for Life
  • National Association of Asian American Professionals Chinatown Cleanup

Delta Chi Psi's (DeltaChiPsi.com) originates to the Spring of 2002. The future founder of Delta Chi Psi, Alexander Chang formed the student organization Temple Asian Brothers United (TABU) at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. TABU's mission was to fill the lack of community and brother hood in the Philadelphia Area and to find the first Asian-Interest Fraternity. TABU remained an official Temple University Student Organization for two and a half years; up and until the summer of 2004. During its time, TABU hosted many fundraising and community service functions to accomplish their goals. It was also during this period that members of TABU absorbed extensive knowledge of Asian Greek life and the fundamentals of fraternities and sororities. The plan to charter an existing fraternity at Temple University was abandoned during the Spring of 2004.

In the summer of 2004, the founder of TABU, Alexander Chang approached a few active members of TABU in works to establish a new fraternity. The organization then underwent a major restructuring. Ultimately, six members of TABU choose to undergo this endeavor. They were Alex Chang, Isaac Alston, Kevin Mui, Tuan Dinh, Dangwei Zhao, and Enoch Lee. Seeing that the organization needed more help, Alex Chang reached out to a friend by the name of James Li at Villanova University. James Li brought with him Andrew Park. With this, the group now consisted of eight individuals. The organization shed its existing name and emerged as Philadelphia Asian Fraternity Initiative (PhilaAFI) in the summer of '04.

PhilaAFI spent half a year planning the next steps of the organization in creating a new Asian Interest Fraternity. Using years of combined knowledge, the members of PhilaAFI laid the ground work for this new fraternity. A constitution was drafted, the letters and its meanings meticulously chosen, a pledge education program was developed, the core values established and the fraternal culture formed. The letters Delta Chi Psi were chosen and Dedication, Determination and Dignity were recognized as the 3 core values of the fraternity.

In the fall of 2004 the members entered into their own education program. Upon completion, they emerged on the 18th of December 2004 as Delta Chi Psi's first brothers and ultimately the Founding Fathers of the fraternity.

In the summer of 2005, a Temple University Alumni and key member of TABU, Liang Huang, approached the fraternity and was granted Founder Status after completing the Educational System. Accompanying him during this Education System was the previously crossed brother Dan "TNT" Zhao. Mr. Huang was granted founder status due to his role in the creation of the fraternity. He missed the original founder Education System due to work and visa conflicts.

Delta Chi Psi has been in existence since and new brothers come into the fraternity every semester. Currently, Delta Chi Psi has 28 brothers and continues to provide community and brotherhood to the Asian American students of the Philadelphia region. City Wide Open Rush commences at the beginning of every semester according to Temple University's calendar.
