Delta Phi Nu (ΔΦN), is a 100% Canadian women's sorority.
Founded on May 14, in the summer of 2008.
Delta Phi Nu is a local sorority and is not an international sorority.
They're value are set in their focus on <ref>"Loyalty, Perseverance, and Knowledge"</ref>.
Although Delta Phi Nu is a small sorority, it is still a very strong sisterhood.
History
Delta Phi Nu was founded by Samantha Price-Rodrigues, Rebecca Caldwell, Erin O'Ray and Carolanne D at Sir Sandford *
Fleming College in Peterborough Ontario, Canada.
One other unregistered women's group was already started at Fleming college by 2008 (Theta Omicron Xi).
However, Samantha Price-Rodrigues saw a need for another group which would be different from the other.
She enlisted the help of her fellow preparatory health science classmates to begin building the foundation of the sorority before rush in the upcoming *
Orientation week in September.
The group of young women began the work of creating a new local sorority.
The sorority first began by enlisting close friends, and fellow classmates.
Symbols, Colours & Coat of Arms
Samantha Price-Rodrigues not only founded the sorority, but also wrote the rituals and constitution as well as designing the emblems.
The choosing of the name was a mutual decision between all of the girls.
Names were suggested and Delta Phi Nu was born.
The inspiration for these came from a variety of sources such as Egyptian Lore, Greek mythology and even astronomy.
The main Delta Phi Nu symbol is known only by the sorority sisters.
It's uses go behind closed doors.
The Delta Phi Nu coat of arms bears the sorority colours; baby blue, white, and silver.
It brandishes a white banner diagonally down the center labeling the Greek letters for Delta Phi Nu.
The top right hand corner shows a white and silver feather with a black ink bottle.
In the bottom left hand corner, an open book.
The feathers surrounding the nobleman is decorated with light blue and white feathers.
Lastly a white and light blue banner streams across the bottom stating the sorority values.
With each and every colour and symbol disclosing a hidden meaning known only to the sorority members, unable to be distinguished by the civilian eye.
Tradition & Ritual
Tradition
There is very strict rules on when and where a Delta Phi Nu can wear her sorority colours and letters.
While wearing the Delta Phi Nu letters or the name of the sorority on her clothing, a sister of Delta Phi Nu is never allowed to consume *
alcohol.
Much in the same way only certain tshirts can be worn with informal clothing such as with flip-flops or running shorts.
Ritual
Initiation is not publicized.
Although not talked about it is a known to be a very formal and exciting ceremony.When a Delta Phi Nu sister dies, her "badge" is given to her female successor i.e. daughter.
If no daughter is present it will go to her closest related female. Delta Phi Nu meetings are very formal in tone.
Sorority meetings are not publicized.
Issues and comments that are discussed in a Delta Phi Nu meeting are never disscussed outside of the meeting room.See also
