== Overview ==

Democracy is a turn based political strategy game which is made by Cliff Harris under Positech Games.

Description

Democracy is a political strategy game that puts the player in the position of President (or Prime Minister) of one of twelve different real-world countries, which include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, Poland, Russia, Sweden and U.S.A. The objective of the game is to stay in power for as long as possible, by keeping as many of the voting population happy as possible.

Democracy lets the player take the individual decisions on government policy that determines the state of the country. Players can build a socialist state, a business-centric country, a liberal or a fascist society. The game is politically neutral.

Policies

The player influences the voters and the country by putting in place policies and can modify them using sliders to decide how much money (and effort) is put into each policy. Different voting groups will have very different and often conflicting views as to which policies are desirable.

Policies are things like "Free Health Care" and can be modified using sliders to decide how much money (and effort) is put into each policy. Different voting groups will have very different (often conflicting) views as to which policies are desirable.

Interface

The interface for Democracy is abstract, different areas of the screen represent different areas of policy, statistics about the country, or groups of voters. Lines connecting areas of the screen are used to show the effect policies have on people, and the effect they have on statistics such as unemployment.

Simulation

Democracy is a simulation game that is turn based where each turn of the game represents 3 months of time. Elections are held every 4 years. A large number of different voter groups are modeled, such as motorists, Trade-Unionists, unemployed people, wealthy people etc. The simulation allows people to be in several groups at once, so for example, an unemployed poor motorist will be influenced by the opinions of all 3 groups when it comes to election day.

Modding

Democracy has a special feature called modding by which players can cange the game by introducing new countries, policies, voter groups, dilemas,

Drawbacks

Democracy has some drawbacks like not including the worlds largest democracy India etc.
