DemozoneDemozone
[1985] stands for 3 days long, open-air
demoscene action. Plug in under the shining sun or sit inside our
big, warm and covered "scener only" tent. Instead of most
sceneparties, which are almost always indoors, you have much more
freedom at DemoZone. Expect no uptight security, no 2-page list of
rules to obey, but instead a huge, chillout computer fanatic
atmosphere and every feature you might need. You can bring your own
tent and strike down to camp or just sleep under the tables in the
partytent like on any other demoparty, it's up to you.
Facilities DemoZone will take place on the
premises of
CampZone,
in a big "scener only" tent, one of the largest computer events in
the country. One of the things this means is some high-quality
features for an open-air event, amongst others:
High quality
catering
Good possibilities for making your own food
A small
on-site grocery store
An exceptional computer fanatic atmosphere
Clean showers
6 Euro discount on Walbi World Tickets
A large,
warm and fluffy DemoZone party tent that hosts:
A cinema-quality
big screen and PA
A cozy chillout area
Plenty computer tables
for all attendants
Space to crash if you don't feel like bringing
your own tent
Demozone ? PC demos
are made to show what the computer can do: They present refined
3D-graphics and vector effects with funky electronic music, where
as much as possible is rendered in real-time. The demo scene is a
subculture so obscure that their creative hijinks go completely
over the head of most people: Assembly code? Real-time?
Non-commercial? What? Demo’s cannot be hung on a wall, they cannot
be touched. They are abstract and only visible on the screen. It is
a visual expression of colors and form and motion as an art form.
At Demozone we and our design competitions together give you an
impression of how advanced visual expression, music and animated
objects have become today.
Why ? The
demoscene is a collective art form that exists on the boundaries of
technology. For this reason you will never be able to find it in
the mainstream media, even if the popularity of demoscene parties
are attracting more than 4000 contestants. The vision is focused on
design and creative expressions and not necessarily on reaching a
wide audience. But with the rapid growth of digital graphics in
games and cinema, the gap is getting smaller.
Many people are
surprised by the quality of the demoscene. In the art scene, it is
getting more recognition than the origins of this digital art
itself. Long before the public knew what to do with the visual
qualities of computers, the demoscene was already pushing it to the
edge of its capabilities. In the 80’s it was much more of a
technical challenge but these days, it is pure symbiosis between
our senses: See, Hear, Feel
Demozone is offering the scene a
stage to demonstrate their creativity long before it becomes
mainstream. In our competitions we try to empower the audience, to
help them realize their own visuals dream. Your limit is your
imagination!

Film FestivalEach
year the entrys of demozone are displayed at Noorderlijk Film
Festival.
The demoscene has been a special feature on the
Noorderlijk Film Festival since 2003. Friesland is the province of
which Leeuwarden is the capital, and distinguishes itself form the
other Dutch regions by virtue of its own language and cultural
heritage. This unique position within the Dutch state inspired the
festival directors to create a special competition, dedicated to
Digital Art Design.
All demozone entry's will be displayed on
the festival beside the special demoscene seminar. The seminar
display's the last development in the demoscene in a normal cinema.
Last year the Farbrausch production >"FR-025: The Popular Demo"
recieved so many complements it has been showed on the finals of
the DAD festival.
The history of
DemoZone Holland a country long known for its
relaxness and creativity has since two years a demoparty. Like
nothing in life, comes for free, so also this demoparty named
DemoZone. It started a little more than two years ago. At that time
Patrick (solenoid) and Albert (VJ-AVS) already enjoyed demos for
many years on Amiga’s (in the early day’s) and the PC. After years
of creative activities their scene and party-life was going
low-profile.Now once a month they download the entries from
scene.org and experienced them in a special rebuild livingroom. So,
it was on one of these Saturday nights with many nice demos on a
three square meter screen, that Patrick proposed to contribute a
creative part to the already existing CampZone. CampZone is the
largest outdoor computer party of Western Europe. It has this
unique atmosphere due to camping, loads of computers, fast network,
good and clean facilities and enthusiastic people. This was early
2003. The CampZone organisation was very enthusiastic and brought
us in contact with Ben Kamphuis of SBA (Stichting Beeldende
Amateurkunst). This is an organisation, who helps promoting
non-professional computer art in the Netherlands. He had similar
plans, but was a few hands short to start it himself. After months
of planning and organising DemoZone officially started at the end
of July 2003. In a few months we managed to start a demo contest in
four categories with many entries, had a fully darkened digital
cinema room, a VIP truck with Heineken running from the tab. The
CampZone officials were happy and the audience enthusiastic. All
the reasons to make it a repeating event
Demozone
2004The year 2004 had again a DemoZone. This year it
was easier. We had the contacts, had made a scenario we could use
again, and more help from CampZone. That year they helped us out
with a bigger, totally darkened party place. Let us held a
VJ-contest at the party night and could use all facilities like WEB
servers, high speed network connections etc. We also had more help
from our sponsors. So will ITC; The Home theatre shop of Holland
provides us, for all the years to come, with the latest type of
high definition projector. SBA contacts us with young computer
artists, who need a platform to present their interesting projects
to the outside world. In one year time our number of entries
doubled, as did the audience. So you guess again….. we need a
bigger tent/party place for another wild DemoZone.
DemoZone 2005 DemoZone 2005 is first of all
a bigger tent, screen and sound system. And this year started well:
Two enthusiastic members of the Dutch party scene: Rob (Tycoon) and
Egbert (Skrebbel) joined the DemoZone team.
