Denistone East Public School was established in
1950 in the suburb of
Denistone East in
Sydney,
NSW.
Affectionately known as
Deno by its students, Denistone
East is large state school that caters for 777 students and is one
of the few state schools to have a swimming pool, much to the envy
of the other schools and students in the general area. The
background of the school's students is distinctly multicultural
with many
Eastern European and
Asian students. The school
was rebuilt in 2005 which gave the school new administrative,
assembly and class room blocks. During rebuilding, Wednesday
February 2nd, the new roof of the large new building on Lovell Road
was pulled off during a storm. This was a major blow for the
children as they had only occupied their new 'senior school' for 3
days.
The
damage was eventually repaired and the new building re-opened
again a month later.
The school is bisected by Brabyn Street
which runs east to west through the school grounds. Because of
this, a section of Brabyn Street can be closed to vehicular traffic
at various times of the day using a large set of
boom gates[444], allowing students to cross
without danger. Brabyn Street also features a Kiss and Ride
zone
[445] to allow students arriving by
motor vehicle to be dropped off safely.
The school motto is
