Denodo Technologies (Denodo) Denodo is a privately held, venture-backed company with dual headquarters in Palo Alto, California, USA and Madrid, Spain. specializing in Enterprise Data Mashups and Web Process Automation software.

History

Denodo was founded in 1999 by Angel Viña, a Computer Science Professor at the University of A Coruña (Spain), based on research made during the second half of 1990’s on integration of disperse structured and unstructured information in real time using a virtual database federation engine. The main focus of this research was to use the Web as a universal paradigm to develop a light-weight and agile approach for data and process integration scenarios within the Enterprise. The Web, given its distributed nature and real time behavior, the inherent heterogeneity of its content that requires query, browse and search for relevant information, and the rapid penetration of web technologies and web information into the walls of the enterprise data centers, served as an ideal model for this research. The approach was named as Real-Time Data Federation, and later Enterprise Data Mashups.

Denodo signed its first customers in 2000 following software as a service as a sales model. Internet subsidiaries of telecom operators like France Telecom, Airtel Movil (now part of Vodafone), Telefonica, and R-Cable, e-commerce portals like Excite.com, OnoLab Internet, MyAlert, Interactive Network, media companies like La Voz de Galicia, Agencia EFE and El Mundo, and financial services companies like Bankinter and Informedas-Senaf, were early adopters of Denodo technology and consumers of their services. Denodo started licensing the Denodo Platform in 2001; the first customer company licensing the Denodo Platform as an enterprise software product was BBVA, the 22nd largest bank in the world with a market capitalization close to $100 billion.

Denodo commenced operations in North America in 2007 and established a new headquarters in Palo Alto, California to drive revenue expansion, partnerships and recognition as a global player in the Enterprise Mashups software space.
