Occupation Actor

Derren Nesbitt (born Derren Horwitz 19 June 1935) is an English actor who was in demand in the 1960s and 1970s for roles that combined the muscular and the debonair, sometimes as Nazi German villains in films centred on the events of the Second World War.

Born in London, the son of South African comedian Harry Nesbitt, he was best known for his role as Chief Inspector Jordan in the TV series Special Branch. He also played the warlord Tegana in the Doctor Who serial Marco Polo, Rachid Noureddine in the Secret Agent episode Sting in the Tail, and Number Two in The Prisoner episode "It's Your Funeral". In the 1972 comedy film Ooh… You Are Awful he played the gangster Sid Sabbath, who pursued Dick Emery's character for much of the picture.

In early appearances (for example, in the 1956 series The Adventures of Sir Lancelot in which he plays an assortment of different characters), he is sometimes credited as Derry Nesbitt.

Derren played the Gestapo officer Major von Happen in Where Eagles Dare. He was almost blinded during the making of the film when the squibs in his chest blew upwards instead of outwards when filming his death scene.

In 2002, he guest starred in the Doctor Who audio drama Spare Parts. In 2007, he appeared in Flawless alongside Michael Caine and Demi Moore.[1] He concentrates his acting career on the theatre nowadays.

Most recently (2008) he has been researching a book on biblical "myths and falsehoods", though he is yet to find a publisher.[2]

Personal life

He has married twice. His first wife was actress Anne Aubrey with whom he had a daughter Kerry. She appeared with her father in the 1972 film Burke & Hare.

Derren's career was damaged in 1973 when he was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm to Anne. He thrashed her on the bare buttocks with a leather strap after she told him that she was having an affair with another man. [3] She divorced him shortly afterwards.

Derren lives in Worthing, West Sussex with his second wife Miranda. The couple have a son Ashley and a daughter Tiffany. He suffered a heart attack in 2008.
