Derrick J. Johnson (born

1973) is an
African American
author and novelist. He is most notable for his poetry.
Biography and Education
Derrick Justin Johnson was born
August 23,
1973 in
Ocala, Florida. He
graduated from the
University of South Florida at
Tampa,
Florida where he earned his
Bachelor of Arts degree in
political science in
1994 and his
Master of Public
Administration degree in
1999. Johnson attended law school at the
University of Miami School of
Law at
Tampa, Florida, where he served as a writer
and the news editor for the school's newspaper the
Res
Ipsa Loquitor. In 2003, Johnson was appointed by the
Editor-in-Chief of the school's newspaper to
serve as the writer for the controversial opinion column,
A View from the Bricks.
Johnson's love of literature, poetry and pop culture made him one
of the most popular writers in the column's history. When Johnson
graduated from law school in 2003, the
A View from the
Bricks, which ran for over a decade, was retired.
Johnson
has been a member of
Sigma Chi International Fraternity since May 5, 1994.
