Derrynoose (Irish: Doire Nuís) is a village and townland in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. It is within the Armagh City and District Council area.

Geography and demographics

Derrynoose is classed as Rural according to the Statistical Classification and Delineation of Settlements Report 2005.

On Census Day 29 April 2001 the resident population of Derrynoose ward was 2956. Of this population, 30.1% were under 16 years old and 12.3% were aged 60 and above. The average age was 31, compared to a county average of 35.

84.3% identified as Catholic and 15.4% were Protestant or other Christian background.

The population density in Derrynoose ward was 0.42 persons per hectare, compared to 0.81 for Armagh LGD and 1.19 for NI.

Of the population aged 16-74, 11.8% had degree level or higher qualifications, 63.1% were economically active, 36.9% were economically inactive; and 3.9% were registered as unemployed.

There were 302 farms registered to addresses in Derrynoose in 2005 and the total agricultural labour force was 508 persons.

The average household size was 3.41 for Derrynoose, compared to 2.89 for Armagh county.
