Dhruv is a Hindi film directed by Sudhir Mishra , based on the life of Dwarka Prasad Mishra, Chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar.

In March 2009, there were many rumours that this was another adaptation of Devdas, however the producer and director refuted these claims[1][2].
Several rumours in the press lead to believe that it was based on "political dynamics of the man-woman relationship".[3]
In an interview with Mid-day, Sudhir confirmed that he is using several elements of his grandfather Dwarka Prasad Mishra's personality in the political film [2].
Later it was confirmed that Kareena Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar will be playing politicians , whereas Chitrangada Singh will be playing a femme fatale of politics and the underworld. Sudhir describes Chitrangda's role as "that of an escort and power-broker in politics" [4][5].
Kareena's role is said to undergo various transformations, Sudhir Mishra enlightens "her character becomes a politician from an ordinary girl, who is the daughter of a police commissioner. The film chronicles how Kareena’s character is sucked into the world of power"[6].
The director has confirmed that parts of the plot are inspired from Shakespeare’s Hamlet [7].
Chitrangada later enlightened "It is about two women madly in love with the same man (Farhan) who is involved in politics," [8].
On 24 February 2009 several rumours released indicating a Kareena-Farhan starrer produced by Excel entertainment and directed by Sudhir Mishra. Farhan Akhtar confirmed this news[3].
Ritesh Sidhwani and Sudhir Mishra confirmed the film and its subject at later stages[1][2] .
On 15 March Kareena Kapoor confirmed her presence in an interview in Hindustan times[10].
Sudhir Mishra then confirmed that Chitrangada Singh is also a part of the film [11].
There is much hype as comparisons with Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti will be made , as Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor have similar roles to Kareena Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar respectively[7].
Pre-production, in the form of casting for the film has begun. Shooting was meant to begin in Rajasthan in September 2009[12], however due to date problems the movie has been postponed to January 2011 [13], . .
