From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A dialect coach (previously referred to as a dialogue coach) assists an actor in assuming a certain regional accent in order to perform convincingly in radio, theatrical or film productions. Dialect coaches are skilled in diction and linguistics, and do not necessarily have to have the accent that they are teaching.

Renée Zellweger has used such a coach in numerous films, most famously for her role in Bridget Jones's Diary.[1]; Roger Daltrey worked with a dialect coach on the set of CSI to help him develop four distinct accents to play four different characters. Sean Astin employed a dialect coach in order to play his role of Samwise Gamgee in the film adaptation of the Lord of the Rings. To prepare for his role as a ruthless Russian-born arms dealer in Lord of War, Nicolas Cage worked with a Russian dialect coach. Likewise, Brad Pitt enlisted the help of a dialect coach in his role as the Irish traveler Mickey in the movie Snatch.
