From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Did It Again" is a song by Colombian singer Shakira. It was released as the second international single from her third English studio album She Wolf. The song was also released with a Spanish version, released mainly to Latin America and Spain, named "Lo Hecho Está Hecho" (English: What is done, is done), as was done with "She Wolf" with Spanish version "Loba".
The song's official remix has a more urban sound, featuring additional vocals from Kid Cudi and is featured on the American special edition of the album.
Promotion
Shakira taped a performance of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on September 15, 2009, for an episode that aired on September 18, 2009. Shakira also performed it on Dancing with the Stars on October 13, 2009, and on Saturday Night Live on October 17, 2009. She performed the song at the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin on November 5, 2009, and later on November 15, on the British television programme The X Factor.
Critical reception
Popjustice said the song is "Brilliant... probably more brilliant than She Wolf... it is not as spooky and deranged as 'She Wolf' and is, in fact, very nice 'n' touching... it's Shakira but different".[1][2] Nick Levine from Digital Spy gave a positive review, saying that: "our hip-wiggling heroine sings, before admitting that she went back for more the next night. The Neptunes, meanwhile, lay down a taut, contemporary production comprising marching band beats, bouncy synths and an infectious "ey-ey-ey" hook. The result? Quality dance-pop from an artist currently oozing... hold on, don't let your mind run away from you... confidence".[3]
Music video
The music video for the song was directed by Sophie Muller on September 17 and September 18, 2009, in Los Angeles, California.[4] It was released on October 30, 2009.[5] A video for the Spanish version was also released. The video begins with Korean female drummers performing the "Samgomu" ("Three Drum Dance") as the beat starts. Shakira is seen in a sauna with her friends wearing all white outfits, and later the video cuts to a scene where Shakira is with her love interest (played by b-boy Daniel "Cloud" Campos) in a room alone doing a contact improvisation-inspired routine on top of the bed. It also shows scenes of Shakira singing alone in the bed. In the last scene Shakira dances in a hall in a sequined outfit and the footage cuts in between scenes of Shakira and the Koreans female drummers, drumming as Shakira is dancing.
According to Shakira the main influences for this video were Lawrence Alma-Tadema paintings and jidba, a sort of an intense trance which is part of the Lila, a traditional ritual of Morocco.[6]
A video for the remix featuring Kid Cudi premiered in December 2009. However it should be noted that it's not the actual remixed version with the different beat, it’s simply the original version with Kid Cudi’s raps thrown in the video.[7]
