District 5 was a seminal indie/rock band in the early 2000s credited with launching the underground music boom in the midwest.
Biography
In 2001 Eric armstrong and friend Edgar Monterrubio began experimenting with music in Monterrubio's garage in Wichita, Kansas.
They started writing songs and soon added bassist Joshua Wood and drummer Kyle Rawson to complete the group later known as District 5.
The group quickly experienced some minor success which proved too much for drummer Kyle Rawson who left the band.
He was replaced in 2002 by Dylan Couch.
They rapidly developed a grass roots following and are arguably solely responsible for the flourishment of Wichita's underground music scene which previously was nearly non-existant.
The band only released three albums and never signed to a label, independent or major, but have been cited by many as being critical to the national independent movement in the early 2000s.
Success seemed overwhelming for the so-called "anti-heroes" and permanently disbanded in 2004.
Armstrong continued producing other emerging bands and occasionally makes guest appearances on indie records and is well known and respected throughout the independent and even mainstream music scenes.
His writings and art have also inspired and infuriated many.
