The upcoming fifth studio album by American rock band Disturbed is currently slated for a summer 2010 release. The band recently finished the writing process, and have stated that they will enter the studio in February to start recording with producer Johnny K, the producer of Disturbed's previous albums The Sickness, Believe, and Ten Thousand Fists.

Production and themes

In a July 2009 interview with FaceCulture, Disturbed's frontman David Draiman talked about the upcoming fifth album: "A couple of them [song riffs] that Danny has come up with are really amazing. But they're just little pieces...it's not even in two-three part progression [yet]."[1] Draiman also commented on the direction of the album, "This record is going to be as dark, if not darker, than Indestructible. I want them [other band members] to throw at me...once again, the darkest, most brutal, most poly rhythmic, most driving, most aggressive stuff they can."

In another interview with Mike Wengren and John Moyer, it was stated that, judging by Draiman's feelings on the last few years of his life, that the album will be aggressive, angry, and "hard-hitting", but will be similar musically to their album Believe.[2] Song-writing for the album began in late 2009.[3]

On January 14, 2010, Disturbed's guitarist Dan Donegan told The Pulse of Radio that the band has around 15 to 18 songs for the new album, but Draiman has to finalize some of the lyrics. Donegan also commented on the new songs, "You know, we're excited about [the] new songs, and to get in there [the studio] and kind of lay down these ideas."[4]

Promotion

In March 2010, the band will relaunch their official website with a special section that will contain exclusive clips, updated weekly, of the band recording the fifth album. The code will be included with the reissue of The Sickness album, which will also be released in March, celebrating the album's tenth anniversary.[5]
