“You guys are going to be the next big
thing”
Starting a band at the ages of 13 and 14 can be quite
difficult in a town with a population of less than 20,000 people.
However, when the combined love of music and God that Jose
Villanueva and Matt Morgan had joined together, it was the start of
what would soon become Divided By Friday.
In early 2005 the
lineup of Divided By Friday was complete now with Chris Thomas on
Bass and James Earl Poole on drums. Writing began as a group and
soon after, their first gig was booked. Many were doubtful because
of the age of the young boys, but after the show, people finally
began to accept them as a real band. Demoing began for a small
release and to the surprise of many; they filled two stories worth
of fans and local supporters.
Becoming nationally recognized
throughout the internet and public, Divided By Friday has received
kudos from members of: Cartel, The Mile After, Sullivan, House of
Heroes all while marketing themselves to bands such as: Armor For
Sleep, Relient K, Underoath, and Chiodos. Recently Divided By
Friday found themselves in the top charts on MySpace Music and
found that they were the third highest ranked unsigned Christian
band in North Carolina.
One night while preparing for an
upcoming gig, front men Jose Villanueva and Matt Morgan checked
their MySpace page to find a message inviting Divided By Friday to
come compete in Band With a Mission in Nashville, TN (making them
the youngest band to ever be invited to such an event). After
showcasing their band they received many Management and Promotional
offers but the band decided to stick it out and manage everything
themselves.
After finishing up in Tennessee Divided By Friday
began writing and demoing for their debut EP entitled “This Side
Up”. The band spent months preparing and held a local release show
to give there hometown a nice “Thank You” for all of their undying
support. Since the release of their EP Divided By Friday has
continued to book local and regional shows across North and South
Carolina.
While at a Divided By Friday concert, one fan says, “I
really feel the emotion coming from the band and it always seems
that their songs are written for me”. The bands energy almost seems
to transfer from the stage straight to the crowd as each song seems
to draw the band closer to each one of its fans.
Divided By
Friday has a very unique and intriguing sound. With influences
ranging from Relient K to Underoath, you never know what to expect
with this band. Upon hearing their sound many are very impressed
with the complexity of music for such a young band. Now at the ages
of 15 and 14, Divided By Friday continues to mature in their sound
and their song writing and looks forward to seeing what God has
in-store for them in the future.
