DJ Alex (Alexandre John Joseph Louis Bourgeau
(born December 07, 1962), nicknamed "Sparky" in highschool for
always spinning the hottest tracks at dances and events. Born in
Lachine General Hospital, and lived in Point Claire, Quebec. First
born to Gabrielle and Jean Bourgeau. Was know for getting up at 3
am at the age of 2, to listen to Greek records by Nana Mouscouri.
Alex started out DJ'ing private parties for friends, and french
private schools, until he decided to go Corporate, and weddings.

Alex was able to provide music for any cultural backgrounds.
English, Scottish, French, Asian, South Asian, and Russian music
were just a few of the music languages he provided for special
events.
He gave up the proffession because of the transportation
demands. At this point enrolled in Sheridan College of Applied Arts
and received honors standings in Sound Editing, and Video
Production. Shortly after, because sound engineer for Harpers
Restaurant and Dinner Theatre for 6 years, providing sound for the

long running production, "Mysteriously Yours" which is now in its
18th year. Occaisionally still provides music and sound assistance
today.
His first nightclub gig, came from The Red Spot, located
on Church Street in Toronto, spinning the likes of current top 40,
house, dance and retro. After a vacation to Cancun, Mexico, DJ Alex
discovered a love for latin music, its passion and its dances.
Immediately upon returning to his home town, he set out to learn as
much about latin music as he could. Purchasing, listening and
learning the differences between salsa, merengue, bachata, etc. DJ
Alex approached the club owner to try and accommodate in
increasingly growing latin crowd with a latin dance night. Titled
"Latin Fever Fridays" The Red Spot became the home of the gay latin
community, and was the only club on the street playing a range of
english and latin music. DJ Alex found it difficult to spin after a
while, because his access to latin music was limited. He then
passed the torch to Vivianna, a latin female dj. The crowd
continued to frequent The Red Spot, which DJ Alex still supported.
DJ Alex was then approached by El Convento Rico to spin. He was
hesitant, because he beleived his knowledge of latin music was not
vast enough to accommodate such a large venue. He auditioned, and
was hired. Not only because of his music, but also because of his
understanding of the latin community. With litterally thousands of
CD's at his disposal, DJ Alex was able to take his work to a whole
new level. With a bit of discomfort at first, DJ Alex persisted in
learning the music, always wanting to make sure his audience has a
new fresh selection every week, mixed in with the classics. Salsa,
Merengue, Cumbia, Bachata, and reggaeton were mixed in with Disco,
Retro, House, Dance, RnB, Hip Hop.
He left El Convento Rico to
experience a smaller club known as George's Play, a spot where the
Red Spot Crowd visited after it closed. With his new knowledge of
latin music, and now knowing latin artists and their styles, DJ
Alex was a positive change to George's Play, where he played for 2
years.
Dj Alex wanted to try and see if he could please the
non-latino audience (english) so he took a gig at Crews and Tango,
Toronto's most popular gay and lesbian club. Right away he hit a
cord with the owners and the clientelle. "DJ Alex knows what the
crowd wants, and he looks at an empty spot on the dance floor
trying to find a way to fill it. And he always did" said a regular
on Saturday Nights.
Currently, DJ Alex has returned to El
Convento Rico, as requested by management. El Convento Rico was
losing its latin flair, and all hopes that DJ Alex could bring this
back. Today, Rico's will be celebrating its 15th year.
Also in
the works, DJ Alex is teaming up with recording artists to produce
remixed versions of their songs. Dean Voon, also know as Hai will
be releasing his second cd, which will include DJ Alex mixes and
influences.
