Dojo Kanojo Cho, guardian of
the Ancient Scroll of the Shen Gong Wu
Dojo Kanojo Cho is a fictional dragon from the
animated television series,
Xiaolin Showdown. He is voiced by
Wayne Knight.
In the
video game, he is voiced by
Paul Rugg.
Character synopsis
Dojo Kanojo Cho, of the northern Cho-Cho
Clan, is a dragon and Guardian of the Ancient Scroll of the
Shen Gong Wu.
He is a wisecracking dragon of the Chinese variety, though he lacks
legs (yet not arms) and crawls like a snake. Like traditional
Chinese
dragons, Dojo can change his size from normal (roughly equal to
that of a
gecko) to a much
larger size on par with that of a train (mentioned to be 50 feet in
the script for the first episode). Incidentally, he once
transformed into a subway train. He can also change his shape into
things, such as a Viking longship, or even Omi as in
Enter the Dragon,
but rarely does so. Dojo occasionally takes part in Showdowns as
items or other things needed, such as the soccerball in
Finding
Omi and the Damsel in Distress in
Time After Time
(2). His shape-shifting does not seem to trigger a natural
increase or discharge of potential to
kinetic energy since he was unable to
break free of
Wuya's golem's
chests when he changed size and again in
Enter The Dragon
when he was unable to escape the cage by simply growing. This might
have been because Wuya had planned for this and had made an elastic
cage.
Character personality
This particular dragon is a
friendly, green, fun-loving friend. His comical personality and
carefree attitude, along with his extremely weak fire breath. Also
known for being lazy, gluttonous (some what like Clay), and a
coward, usually when scared, he hides under Clay's hat. In "Night
of the Sapphire Dragon" Dojo can't breathe fire, but in "Citadel of
Doom" he breathes fire about 30 feet away. Dojo traditionally
serves as the comic relief in the show, mostly with Shen Gong Wu
related allergic reactions (occasionally violent sneezing,
sometimes rashes, or other random effects) or humorously
introducing new rules for the Showdowns (usually at the last
possible moment, to the great annoyance of either the Xiaolin
Dragons-In-Training, or whichever adversary they happen to be
facing at the time). Dojo has a special soft spot for Omi, having
known him since he was young. He also tends to hide behind or
around Clay when trouble starts, and seems to have a particular
liking to ducking under his cowboy hat. Dojo proved his bravery and
loyalty once by defeating the Sapphire Dragon that had frozen Omi
and the others into sapphire statues along with
Master Fung
and the other older monks by supplementing his own weak fire
breathing abilities with incredible hot sauce obtained from Clay's
secret stash. Afterwards, he was hoping to become a Chosen One, but
the good elements were all taken. When he said he could become a
dragon of fire, he turned brown. He jokingly referred to himself as
the Dragon of Soot
(Chinese symbol: smoke) for a few
seconds. Then at the end said he could be the dragon of gas. "Eat a
few beans and BOOM I'm in!" Dojo fears Wuya, although he has been
known to sit alongside her whenever he is forced onto the
sidelines, and also has a mortal fear of
Chase Young due to the villain's penchant
to drink soup with dragons in it. He tries to be brave and will do
anything to protect the Shen Gong Wu, though he has some moments of
cowardice and is not above running away screaming. He is fond of
Master Fung and can often be found sitting on his shoulder. In one
episode Dojo becomes upset when he is sent to Master Monk Guan's
temple with the Xialin Dragons. He calls Master Fung several times
on Kimiko's cellphone and is upset when he sees another
dragon(female) with Master Fung. He does favors and shows love by
doing foot baths, noggin kisses, toenail clippings and was jealous
of Good
Jack Spicer, who did more
favors. Also Jack Spicer being good creeps him out. Adding that he
has a mutual friendship with Master Fung, he has a folder full of
"wise phrases," apparently taken from a desk calendar.
He has
broken the
fourth
wall twice: once in "Night of the Sapphire Dragon" when he hid
in the black part of the temporary wide screen format, the second
time in
Time After Time (1) when Omi says "Cooties all
around!" then walks off screen, Dojo holds up a sign to the
audience that says "Kudos".
Character history
Dojo is older than 15,000 years. In the past, Dojo served as
a sidekick of sorts to Dashi, helping him to hide the Shen Gong Wu
around the planet. From Dojo's retellings, it seems they had a
mentor/apprentice relationship. Dojo was still learning the trade
at the time Dashi was alive however, and often earned his contempt
with his blatant and constant slipups.
Years later, Dojo works
as an assistant to Master Fung at the Xiaolin temple. It is a
likely guess that he has remained with the temple since its
construction. He has gained much experience at this point and often
serves as Fung's voice when the Chosen ones are on the
road.
Every 1,500 years Dojo needs to be locked up for 24 hours
to prevent himself turning into a two-headed giant monster that has
an insatiable, irresistible craving for Shen Gong Wu, to the point
that he will betray and/or destroy friends to get to them and
swallow them. While in this state, he ate the Imo Gazer. The last
time he got out, he was apparently responsible for the
disappearance of
Atlantis. If he does get out of control in this
state, then there will be darkness upon the earth for 1000 years
(962 years, actually, but Master Fung says 1,000 sounds much more
impressive and ominous).
Dojo has the ability to shape-shift,
which he has used to assist the young Dragons in training by
assuming the form of transportation vehicles such as a boat or a
subway train. While trying to escape the box he was locked in to
keep him from consuming Shen Gong Wu, he assumed a variety of green
forms including versions of Master Fung, a little girl, Omi's
mother (which apparently Omi ignored since he was raised as an
orphan), and even Omi himself. Chase Young was also going to turn
him into a bowl of Lao-Mang-Lon Soup, which gives Chase
immortality, but Master Monk Guan saved him from becoming Wednsday
morning's breakfast.
He also holds a massive grudge against his
former friend Chucky Choo, who he claimed to have stolen the Cho
Cho clan's prized family
yo-yo. When Chucky visited the monks while training
with Master Monk Guan to avoid the potentially large number of
villains he had sold fake Shen Gong Wu to, Dojo immediately became
enraged and attacked him on sight. Later on, Chucky and Dojo made
up their differences (but not before Chucky created a complicated
ruse that made it look like he was betraying the Monks and Dojo),
Chucky became Master Monk Guan's temple guardian, and Dojo was
given the family yo-yo back. However, that yo-yo turned out to be
fake.
Dojo has only competed in two showdowns, one where he was
evil and battled Omi, and another when he dueled Wuya in a game of
pinball.
Friends and family
Loch Ness
Monster: Dojo's Cousin. Mentioned when Kimiko fished
out the Tangle Web Comb from Loch Ness itself. Chucky
Choo: Dojo's old "friend". He was first mentioned in
"Something Jermaine", but showed up in third season episode, in
which Chucky was selling fake Shen Gong Wu to most of the
villains. Tiamat: His uncle. Only mentioned in
Omi Town when he sent Dojo his skeleton. This may be a reference to
the dragon (hence, a possible relative) from Dungeons &
Dragons, who was in turn named after the Tiamat of Sumerian mythology Quotes
"I hid them so good, I might not be able to find them. Wait. That
came out wrong." "What happened? I blinked and missed it."
"Then let’s stop gabbing and start grabbing! Shall we, thank
you." "Give me a sec’, it’s been 15 hundred years!" "It’s
definetly going to work, probably, um mabye, I mean if we get real
lucky, not a snowballs chance!" "Zip, nadda, bubkiss!"
"Stop! I can’t, do anyrthiong to stop you." "My whole body is
one big itch of anticipation!" "You’ll never understand us
artists. We need to suffer for our art." "Aaah, snack. The most
beautiful word in any language!" "According to my tongue, that,
by the way, has a coat hairier than a wooly mammoth…" "Hey,
there are three things I learn not to talk about. Religion,
Politics, and Omi’s head." "Getting awfully chummy with the bad
guy, huh." "This is it. Well, I did have a good 15 hundred
years...I WANT TO LIVE!!!" "Except for the parts where she
slapped ya silly and got away, I think that went pretty
well."--
