A dominant position is a grappling term for a position in which the grappler is in a favourable position compared to his or her opponent in terms of pinning, scoring points, submitting, striking, sweeping, scoring a takedown or throwing. The following are generally considered to be dominant positions, regardless of the grappling art involved:
  • Double underhooks
  • Mount
  • Side mount
