Young is an
R&B vocalist. Dominique is known for
appearing on
Making The Band 3, and becoming a
finalist. She delivered a performance of
Deborah Cox's
Nobody's Supposed To Be Here,
leaving choreagrapher
Laurie Ann Gibson in tears, and
Diddy stating "there is no
way that I can send someone home who just did what you did".
However, Dominique did not make the band.
If you were one of
the millions watching the final episode of Making the Band 3 Season
2, you weren't the only one in total shock when Dominique didn't
make the band. Not after she brought tears to your eyes with her
rendition of Deborah Cox's Nobody's Supposed to Be Here just weeks
earlier and Diddy said “I can't send nobody home that does what you
just did” and “That's how you come through in the clutch Boo!
That's who I like to roll with!”
Dominique has been singing her
heart out since the tender age of two years old, when adults
wondered what she knew about Karyn White's Superwoman. She has a
powerful soprano voice that warms your soul and makes you wonder
how all that power fit into that five foot frame. She grew up on
the West side of the Bronx with her teenage mother and two
grandmothers who stressed the importance of education and how it
was the key to her success. She attended the KIPP Academy in the
South Bronx where she was the lead drummer for their nationally
acclaimed orchestra. Attending the KIPP Academy helped her to earn
a full scholarship to private college preparatory schools in
Massachusetts and Maryland and succeed in what she calls her
“Education Hustle”. During the summers when she wasn’t taking extra
classes Dominique was at the KIPP Academy tutoring and teaching
kids how to play the drums. Although she appeared on Showtime at
the Apollo and competed in several local talent shows in New York,
she postponed her musical career to focus on her education. Making
the Band was Dominique's first major step towards her goal of a
singing career but don't think that she has no musical experience.
She sang with her high school choir and both her high school and
college acapella groups. Dominique also gained theatre experience
in Middle and High School starring in The Women, Scrooge, and Too
Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. She lists Mary J. Blige and
Stevie Wonder as her musical inspirations and comes from a family
where both her mother and father were singers.
Now is the time
for the world to experience what her friends and family have been
enjoying for years. Working with the likes of R & B sensation
Ne-Yo and producers Herb Middleton, Shea Taylor and DJ Eddie F,
Dominique's upcoming solo debut is definitely something to look out
for. She is an inspiration for young people and wants to show them
that you can focus on education and still follow your dreams. She
wants to succeed in the music business and use her success to help
open the doors to educational opportunities for the young and old
alike. Dominique is here to prove that you don't have to Make the
Band to make it big.
She is currently not signed, and is
looking for a record deal. There has been an online
petition sent to record labels
asking Dominique to be signed. Dominique is at the top of the
MySpace Music charts,
with over millions of plays.
