Donovan Patton (born March 1, 1978 in Guam), is best known for his role as Joe, the second host of Nick Jr.'s children's television program Blue's Clues. He currently provides the voice of Bot on the new Nick series Team Umizoomi. He has also appeared in three episodes of the ABC daytime drama One Life To Live.

Biography

Patton's father was an Air Force officer. He was born on a Guam military base, and grew up in Germany and in various U.S. cities.[1] Patton is a cousin of General George S. Patton. He began acting in junior high school[2], received acting training from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, and appeared in Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing on stages in New York City.

When he auditioned for the role of Joe in Blue's Clues, Patton was a "starving artist" and was working as a waiter.[2] The producers of the show auditioned 1,500 people before choosing Patton to replace Steve Burns, the original host. The research they conducted with preschoolers and their parents was integral in their choice; producer and co-creator Angela C. Santomero called it "unanimous".[1]
