Jordan Galland's musical baby,
Dopo Yume, is a campy mix of indie pop and
garage rock. He was 18 when he founded this funky outfit in
1998, combining the
Italian word for "after" (dopo) and the
Japanese translation for "dream" (yume).
For the next few
years. Galland collaborated with some of his fellow N.Y.C. pals
like
Sean
Lennon,
Cibo
Matto's Miho Hatori and
Yuka Honda, and
Timo
Ellis, but solidified Dopo
Yume's lineup with the addition of Jopa Keenon
drums), Adam
Crystal (keyboards), and David Muller (bass). Guitarist/arranger
Kevin
McGinnis joined shortly thereafter and Dopo Yume immediately
charged the
posh, post-grunge music scene taking over
Manhattan. They played shows with the
likes of Rufus Wainwright
and Phantom Planet, and in late 2002, Dopo Yume's
cheeky, fun
debut, True Romance, was independently released
