Doreen Virtue (born 29 April, 1958) is an author, and creator of products and workshops on angels and angel-oriented therapy, fairies, chakras, goddesses, Ascended Masters, Indigo Children, and other spiritual topics. <ref name=philly>O'Reilly D. She sees angels around all of us Doreen Virtue says people should not be embarrassed to believe they had had encounters with these spirit-beings. Philadelphia Inquirer April 9th 2000. Virtue is best known for her book Messages From Your Angels, which has sold over 700,000 copies, and her New Age themed deck of cards.<ref> Kits help booksellers reach retail nirvana, USA Today, July 21st 2003</ref>

As a child Virtue claimed to see dead people, and was unable to tell the difference between them and living people. She now claims to be able to see guardian angels of every person on earth, even over the telephone, and has created a lucrative business telling people about their angels. <ref name=philly />

Virtue claims a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from California Coast University, which was not an accredited institution when Virtue attended, and has widely been considered a diploma mill.<ref name=observer> Little Boy Blue, Dallas Observer, March 9th 2006</ref>. The university is now accredited as a distance learning school by the Distance Education and Training Council.<ref> California Coast University - Recognition of the University's Degrees</ref><ref> CHEA Database of Institutions Accredited by Recognized U.S. Accrediting Organizations</ref>

Outside of her claims involving angels Virtue has spoken and written on a range of concepts such as Indigo Children<ref> Indigo kids: Does the science fly?, USA Today, June 1st 2005.</ref><ref> Are They Here to Save the World?, New York Times, January 12th 2006</ref> and numerology, where she claims to have divine revelation that the appearance of repetitive number sequences are forms of angel communication. <ref> More than just numbers game, Calgary Sun, May 13 2005 </ref>

Before she became involved in the New Age Movement, Virtue claims that she worked at several psychiatric hospitals<ref> Biography from "I can do it" conference in Las Vegas</ref>. That claim is disputed since both hospitals appear to have been closed down for a considerable period of time.<ref name=observer />

Her first published works were in the genre of psychological self-help and food craving.<ref name= philly />

Virtue has reported that it was a carjacking attempt in 1995 that brought her to her current career path. She claims that the attackers were driven off after a voice told her to scream at the top of her lungs and passers-by came to her aid. She says she rediscovered clairvoyant abilities she had possessed since childhood and dedicated herself to following and teaching about divine guidance.

She has primarily published through Hay House, which focuses on New Age books and materials and was started by author Louise Hay. Hay House also sponsors her internet radio show and many of her workshops and seminars worldwide. <ref> Hay House Radio website</ref>
