Douglas Anthony "Doug" Hutchison (born 26 May 1960) is an American actor, known for his roles in The Green Mile, as corrections officer Percy Wetmore, Eugene Victor Tooms in The X-Files, as Horace Goodspeed in Lost and as Davros in 24. He owns the production company Dark Water Inc.
Hutchison was born in Dover, Delaware, the son of Ashley and Richard Hutchison. He spent most of his childhood in Detroit, Michigan and Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has a younger brother named Erik. Years later, he moved to New York City, where he attended the Juilliard School. There, he studied with actor Sandy Meisner for two years. As is the case with many aspiring actors, Hutchison was forced to make ends meet through odd-jobs, including dressing as a Citibank card while handing out fliers in Times Square.
Hutchison began acting in high school productions at Apple Valley High School in Minnesota. Shortly after graduating from high school, at the age of 18, he starred in a Minneapolis production of Equus, to highly positive reviews. His other early stage credits include Sing Me Through an Open Window and Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.
Hutchison has made several guest apperarences on notable shows, such as The Young Riders, Eugene Victor Tooms in The X-Files, a recurring role as the silicate, Elroy-El in Space: Above and Beyond, as an unnamed individual on another Chris Carter show, Millennium, Horace Goodspeed in Lost, Sebastian Hulce on the soap opera The Guiding Light, as serial killer Humphrey Becker in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and the TV series Kidnapped, alongside Delroy Lindo. Recently, he has guest starred as Davros, a European terrorist in 24.
Hutchinson entered the film business at the end of the 1980s, portraying Sproles in the 1988 drama film Fresh Horses. That same year, he played Obie Jameson in the film adaptation (1988) of the The Chocolate War. He had more success in the 1990s, appearing in films, such as The Lawnmower Man (1992), racist James Louis 'Pete' Willard in A Time to Kill (1996), Con Air (1997), and Batman & Robin (1997). In 1999, Hutchison was cast as troublemaking prison guard Percy Wetmore in the film adaptation of Stephen King's The Green Mile, for which he received critical acclaim. He continued his career by having supporting roles in the 2000 films Shaft and Bait, I Am Sam (2001), and 2002 films The Salton Sea and No Good Deed. Hutchison's career decreased in the 2000s, when he instead began receiving short films and direct-to-video films. However, he was cast as the brother of Billy Russeti, James "Looney Bin Jim" Russeti in Punisher: War Zone, based on the antihero The Punisher. He starred alongside Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames in Give 'em Hell, Malone, scheduled to be released in 2009.
