Dov Soll was born in Lodz, Poland December 25, 1932. He is Jewish,
and the only person in his family to have survived the Holocaust.
In 1939 he and his family were sent to the Lodz Ghetto where his
grandfather Osher Soll died. In the Lodz Gettoh Jews were forced to
work in factories from six in the morning to nine at night. Dov was
forced to work on engines, and old man taught him how to. In 1944
he and his family were deported to Auschwitz Birkenau were his
mother Bela Soll was gassed in the gas chambers on arrival. Dov
Soll was sent to a bunk were he too was supposed to die, yet he hid
in the bathrom for two days and managed to live. Then he his
brother Peretz and father Yehezkel were deported to Dachau. There
his father was shot by a Nazi and his brother was beaten to death,
Dov was tortured and became blind in his left eye. He was then sent
to another camp there he was liberated by the U.S. army at 2:00 in
the morning on May 2, 1945. Dov tried immigrating to Palestine(soon
to be Israel) when he heard that the Jews were fighting for a
homeland. Unfortunately he was caught by the British and was sent
to Cyprus. At 1948 he immigrated to Israel and fought in the
Israeli War of Independence. He became and Israeli Army engineer
from 1955-1995, he currently resides in Tel-Aviv. He's married to
Sarah Soll and has two sons and seven grandchildren.
