"Down by the Riverside" is a traditional gospel song. It was first published in Sandburg's American Songbag (1927) and there are at least 14 black gospel recordings before World War II.^[1] Elvis Presley also had a hit with it. The song has been covered by Van Morrison as well as Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee. It was also the basis of an Allan Sherman parody called "Don't Buy the Liverwurst".

"Down by the Riverside" is a film noir horror, telling two intertwining stories of murder and mystery set across two decades.
The New Zealand film is currently in post-production and is expected to be released later this year.

Plot

In the early twentieth century, several pregnant girls meet in a country house, where they have all been sent to have their unwanted children.
The girls and their unborn children were never seen by outsiders again. Almost twenty years later, disturbing truths are revealed, and the dark story continues.
