Dragon Half is a very silly comedy manga by Ryūsuke Mita. It is best known for having 2 OVA episodes based on sections of the first two volumes of the same name. It is a gag manga with RPG references in it.

Story

Dragon Half stars Mink who is half-human and half-dragon. You see, Mink's human father was once a great swordsman. One day, King Siva sent him to slay a red dragon. Not went as well planned, however, as Rouce fell in love with the dragon which turned out to be female. The dragon was called Mana. Rouce then married Mana. Then Mink was born and as a result, she shares characteristics of both parents - while she appears human for the most part, she has also a tail, two horns and a pair of wings which sprout when needed. She can even breathe fire. Luckily, that does not cause her much trouble until the beginning of the series where she accidentally kills one of King Siva's assassins sent to murder both Rouce and Mink.

In the second chapter of the manga, we see Dick Saucer the famous singer for the first time( who Mink has a crush on). Then King Siva and a techno-magician called Rosario find out Mink is the culprit. Next, Mink meets her rival - Princess Vina. Then we learn Dick Saucer is a dragon slayer because his parents were killed by a dragon many years ago. So Mink decides to the find the Pido potion which can change her into a pure human. During her travels, she meets Star man who tells her to slay Azetodeth; the greatest demon
in the land and the father of three sons - Dug Finn, Migu and Rogue.[1629] At first Mink refuses, but Star man happens to be the leader of a country called " Pido". He tells Mink she is the chosen one and he will offer her a vial of Pido potion if she is successful.

Mink is not alone in her quest. She is accompanied by an female elf called Rufa, a kid called Pia and a mouse called Mappy who was given by Star man. Together, They meet many human and non-human characters including a female vampire living with four handmaidens representing the four Classical elements as the story unfolds.

The story ends with Mink defeating Azetodeth by beheading him with a sword. 2 years later, she and Dick Saucer are married.
After Dragon Half ended, Ryūsuke Mita created a sequel called Dragon Half Z about Mink's daughter Pink.

Characters

Mink

The protongist of the story. Mink is the result of a union of a male human and a female dragon and in search for the Pido potion which can change her into a human. She and her friends will usually eat any edible monster slain by them. Although she is pretty and intelligent, she is somewhat unhappy about the fact now her parents fight and she has to get various creatures for their meals. Nevertheless, Mink is a great fighter with her fists and tail. Mink is a kind-hearted and sweet-natured girl.

Waga

An assassin sent to kill Rouce for disobeying the king. When he encounters Mink, he falls off a cliff, dies and is never seen ever again.

Rufa

An female elf. She is cute but a bit self-absorbed, often spends money for clothes over food. She has a cruel streak but is really nice. Rufa's father is named Link. Rufa never mentions her mother although Link is seen with a female elf - either her mother or a girlfriend.

Pia

A small boy that goes anywhere with Mink, Rufa and his pet mouse Mappy. He really rarely uses his sword. His parents constantly worry about his safety and insist him wear body-armor. In the OVA, Pia is female but in the manga, Pia is male. At the end of the story, Pia has transformed from a cute young boy to a REALLY, sexy 16-year-old Roppongi girl (Roppongi is a city in Tokyo).

Mappy

A mouse that belongs to Pia. He can transform into a gigantic were-gerbil when angered. His prime foes are Rufa and over-sized cats.

Rouce

Mink's human father who used to be a famous swordsman until he got married to Mana. Now he is lazy and middle-aged and fights with her. Rouce is now in love with other women. This is one of the many reasons why he and Mana are fighting. Rouce is also a coward but he remains loyal to his wife and daughter.

Mana

Mink's dragon mother. What makes the mixed marriage work is she can turn into a human. However she turns back into a dragon when she gets angry.

Dick Saucer

A famous popstar. He is also a dragonslayer because both his parents were killed by a dragon 15 years ago. Early in the manga, King Siva orders Dick saucer to slay Mink( which he believes her be to a pure dragon not a Half-dragon as she really is). Dick saucer now thinks Mink for a full dragon and even mistakes a male dragon for her.

Damaramu

A extremely unlucky warrior who cannot remember what he has done and has extremely low intelligence. He is a initially a tall warrior who rides on a fish-like pterodactyl called Roshi. But then he gets stabbed in the head with his sword by accident and his body replaced by sheet metal. Later, he is nothing but a head with little arms and feet.

King Siva

The bald king of Siva who constantly spies on Mink's parents. Short and fat, he often punishes people by letting stone blocks fall on them. His bald head resembles a bun although his daughter denies it.

Princess Vina

Mink's rival for Dick Saucer. She is also the beautiful daughter of Siva. Like Mink, she is also half-human. In that case, Vina is the result of human and slime. Her mother, Venus who is now dead was a member of the slime species but she swallowed a pido potion which caused her to transform into a extremely beautiful human female. Then Venus married Siva and they had Vina. Unfortunately, Vina took the slime part of their family. At that moment, Siva went completely bald and her mother died of a broken heart. Only through practicing and studying black magic for 13 years, Vina achieved a human form.

Azetodeth
The main villain of the story, Azetodeth is a giant three-eyed monster that kills people. 2000 years ago, he destroyed various cities. Mink's dragon great-grandfather and his minions tried to stop him but they got beaten up until Mink's dragon great-grandfather was the only one left.

The good news was Mink's great-grandfather had the gourd of the saints - an item which took 200 years to create and could capture Azetodeth. The bad news was he forgot to wear his false teeth so he couldn't recite the spell properly. As a result, Mink's great-grandfather was nearly killed and the gourd was broken. However, the broken pieces had magic power left and lived on as three artifacts

Now Azetodeth has three sons and a lover who lives in a maze of caves. The youngest son is Dug Finn, the middle son is Migu and the eldest son is Rogue.
