What is Dream India 2020?
We are a group of
professionals employed full time in plush jobs that the new economy
has opened up for us. The only uniting factor being a common dream
- India, a country free from social demons like poverty, hunger,
illiteracy, unemployment, epidemics, inaccessible primary
healthcare, the list can become endless (very unfortunately). We
hope to see a developed India realizing its potential in all
domains. As envisaged by our visionary President Dr APJ Kalam (We
are committed to his vision 2020), we expect to reach these
milestones in our journey by 2020 AD. Pipe Dream? Fancy thoughts?
No definitely not. To dispel such skepticism we feel our primary
goal is to heighten social consciousness, increase development
sensitization and instill collective responsibility among our
fellow Countrymen. A little thought, some concern and few
responsible steps is all it takes to march ahead relentlessly.
Started by 3 youngsters in January 2005, Team Dream India 2020,
today, boasts of over 100 people spread across Mumbai, Chennai,
Bangalore, Pune and now Hyderabad, actively involved in various
activities, primarily working with underprivileged children .We
will be expanding our activities in other areas of concern shortly
with steady steps, taking forward our lessons learnt both from the
miserable failures and the stupendous successes. No, we do not
solicit any financial contribution (though we do require it for our
activities and welcome it). But what we do request is to contribute
your time, your think tank, and your effort for our activities. It
is understandable that all of us are busy professionals toiling 14
hours a day at office, but atleast we have to contribute 2 hours in
a week for the cause of underpriveliged in the society .We are
requesting the same from you.If everyone of us does that, we are
sure of realising the dream of our beloved President Dr.Kalam- A
DEVELOPED INDIA. At the very least we expect you to be a
responsible citizen as you go about your life, day in and day
out.
What do we do?
Visit charity
organizations regularly and help the children in their studies
Identify slums and provide education, private tuitions, computer
classes etc for the children, who are usually the first generation
learners in their families
Identify people who are genuinely in
an urgent need for financial help, and contribute towards their
cause
Private tuitions for poor children near our homes
Sponsor
education for poor but genuinely interested children
Our Future Goals
As mentioned, our aim
is to make India a developed country, at least by the year 2020.
There is a lot of work to do, some of which can be found below:
Identify children in schools especially government schools
and sponsor their education. Talented children could be identified
and supported to improve their talent
Arrange for medical
camps regularly in the areas identified for committed service.
Follow up and track health improvement
Identify uneducated
people, especially destitute women and arrange for support from
bigger self help groups
Identify and adopt a slum or a
village
A group of about 10 persons adopt a slum and identify its
immediate requirements and fulfill them. The requirements could be
education, providing facilities for employment, health education,
social awareness, etc
Larger groups adopt a village, and do the
same as above, and also provide infrastructure based on capacity,
or help in arranging, or at least, create awareness to claim
infrastructure(for example, establishment of cottage industries).
Identify people who are unemployed, and provide jobs for
them. Arrange for providing vocational training for self reliance
Get support or sponsors from larger organizations to set up
infrastructural facilities in villages, slums or any underdeveloped
locality. For example, in a village, a Bio-Gas plant could be set
up with the support from other larger organizations.
Spread
the idea of duty, responsibility and commitment to the society, and
get more of our fellow citizens to reforming the society
Identify any organization involved in dedicated social service;
support it financially and also physically, by taking classes for
them, arranging for any of their needs, etc.
Identify
beggars, or children on streets, track them, trace their origin,
after assuring that they are genuinely helpless, take them to a
charity organization and provide continuous support.
Spread
knowledge and awareness about and encourage any development
initiative
What can you do?
Visit an
underdeveloped locality, a slum and provide basic needs
Take
tuition classes for uneducated people or people with low standard
of education
Volunteer for ongoing Social Service projects – like
Blood donation camps
Sponsor education for children with poor
financial backgrounds, so that they don’t discontinue due to lack
of money
Provide opportunities for poor and unemployed people to
earn, by sponsoring/donating sewing machines, articles for
handicraft, raw materials for cottage industries
Identify and
gather people of similar such interests, provide them avenues for
social service
Try to utilize your popularity or contacts to
raise funds at times for people in an urgent need
Support an
organization involved in service, by contributing and collecting a
token amount regularly and fulfilling any of their necessities
If
you have a function at your home, try to make it memorable, by
making a small contribution to a charity organization you trust
But, I am not India...
Well, do you stay away in a foreign
land? No problem, the very feeling that we wish to contribute to
our mother land would make sure we do it where ever we are... Here
are certain things you could do in spite of being away from
India.
You can ask your friends in India to join our team, which
is active in five cities ( Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and
Hyderabad) as of now. More strength means more contribution.
You
can share information about the group with as many people as
possible. Well, even if not in this group, it is fine even if
people get involved in social activities through any group or
organization. The ultimate aim is that it should contribute to the
society no matter in what name.
You can write to us all your
thoughts about seeing a better India, they will be published in our
weekly. You can even take up responsibility of office work kind of
tasks, like preparing newsletters, articles, posting messages in
forums and blogs, maintaining communication, etc and create
awareness about the Dream of ours.
In case you know some poor
family at your home town whom you want to help, but find that
difficult to do that alone, then please let us know. We can work
together to help them!!!
Last but not the least, if you wish, you
could contribute monetarily towards the emergency calls for the
genuinely needy people that our group responds.
Think…. Think
different, if need be … Make a delightful difference.
Let us all
be equal stakeholders, concerned partners in this growth story that
India is.
Let our actions speak, sound thus emanating from them
Heavenly!!!
Together We Can!!! Together We Should!!!
Jai
Hind!!!
