Elena Salgado Méndez (b. 12 May 1949 in Ourense, Spain) is a Spanish politician currently serving as the Second Vice President and Minister of Economy and Finance in the government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. She succeeded Pedro Solbes in April 2009 in a surprise move.[1]

A graduate of Industrial Engineering and Economic Science,[2] she had previously been Health Minister (2004-2007) and Minister for Public Administration (2007-2009).[3] She has been a deputy for Cantabria province since the 2008 election.[4]
